A lot of it would be rules of engagement with war games.

The US side may have being playing a force with superior numbers but inferior equipment or tactics whilst the British may have being playing the opposite.

Something tells me that with a 15:1 advantage, better equipment wouldn't have helped them much. Besides, we had better kit than the Yanks, with all their resources?! Oh yeah, they left it all in Afghanistan Laughing

And whatever tactics and kit the Yanks were using, the idea is to win.

Lots of comments below about how SJW indoctrination has been weakening the US military's training, including comments from those serving.

Playing at having better kit and tactics.

So, for example, the yanks can't call in artillery or air strikes and the Brits could.

Question
What was the actual situation in those exercises? Do you know? I haven't heard anything about the Yanks having restrictions applied. What would be the point? Military exercises are supposed to replicate as close as possible actual war situations. When have the Yanks ever gone into battle with an inferiority in kit?

Or maybe it’s just not true?

Anyhow, I can’t decide whether the story below is laudable or laughable. Shouldn’t a fighting ship have a fearsome name? *

The US Navy has launched a ship named after a gay rights activist forced to resign from the service because of his sexuality in the 1950s. The USNS Harvey Milk was launched in San Diego on Saturday,

(* Oh yeah, HMS Queen Elizabeth...)

So forcing people to wear badges is mildly annoying. But it isn't the badges themselves but what goes along with that which becomes dangerous. Things become accepted step by step, and we only have to look at history (which some are trying to rewrite or eradicate altogether, as if they could) to see where it can all lead.

History encompasses more than retrospective viewing, thankfully. Artefacts, documentation and more, which is why some wish to destroy such, and must be prevented from doing so.

The present can also look at the totality of the past. For example, we now know that.stalin killed many and the allies knew about the death camps.but chose not to make it public to maintain morale.

And this is exactly why we should be careful about passing judgement on history. We aren't always fully informed about the dilemmas that people faced, and who would have wanted to have been faced with this one?

What we have had, been lucky to have, is a society where people can study it and write about it freely, so we can read more than one account and interpretation and get a fuller picture. I hope we never begin to restrict what we are allowed to read as far as history is concerned.

It's difficult. Isn't it important to understand the mind of a Hitler or a Stalin?

When we look back in History we have the advantage of hindsight, but it's still a hindsight approved by the winners/people in power.

It's very difficult to know what the population actually knew about what was going on in their time. I mean, we blame the Germans for Nazism but how many rank and file Germans had a clue what was going on behind the wall of propoganda.

Even nowadays, with wall to wall social media we have censorship of sorts when it suits the powers that be. An obvious one is the police not revealing the ethicity of a wanted criminal even though saying he's black/white/Asian would eliminate large chunks of the population from being under suspicion.

It's a reason I don't want any governmental controls over the internet bar being able to prosecute the person for inappropriate content. The ability to put it up should be sacrosanct in my view otherwise governments have probably the most powerful propoganda tool going.

We are lucky in this country in that there are checks and controls in place on governments. I would say most countries in the world don't have that safetynet even now.

Age-old question: who decides what is appropriate and what is not?

It's that old judicial comment: "I can't say I can define what pr0n is but I'll know it when I see it."

Subjective laws are always going to be on shaky ground Thinking
