Did the Cold War ever actually end? There seemed to be a brief hiatus in the aftermath of the collapse of communism and the Soviet Union, but then Russia got a regime that was grounded in all the subversion techniques of that era, and they felt they were slighted by the west in that aftermath. This on top of the seeds already having been sown during the Cold War. Perhaps the forces at work from after 1945 are finally beginning to win? And perhaps the internet turned out to be a better tool for them than for us? It helped them to establish the enemy within better than any deception operative in an embassy.
Demoralisation.
Destabilisation.
Crisis.
Normalisation.
Woooooo!

Perhaps we are looking from different viewpoints. Mine is one that sees us so far from Communism that the Tories vote to let kids go hungry, and yours is from under the brim of a tinfoil hat where anyone who disagrees with your world view is a fifth-columnist homosexual with hairy armpits and a vegan diet 
I am currently posting from my office room. I was told to clean it out this weekend by 'er indoors, who will be working in it with me from now on. This means I can no longer spend my days arguing on the internet with people I am never likely to meet, playing World of Tanks and surfing for donkey-porn. I see trouble ahead....

If someone asks you to play a game with rigged rules your choices are to engage and fail or not play the game at all. |
It's a good point, but the latter is not an option, or the opponent wins by default.
We have to play, and we have to make people look, so that they see they need to play too. Then if the majority of players are united against the opponent, the opponent's attempts to rig the rules will fail. They will be held to the rules imposed by the majority.

I'm continually amazed by the amount of people drinking the right wing conspiracy kool-aid which tells them that a creeping left wing menace is always out to the get them. After ten years of Tory leadership, Brexit, Trump mania... and you think that some shady notion of post-1945 communism is creeping up on us?
Society has leaned further and further to the right as each decade goes by. The neoliberal right, to be exact. It isn't even about conservative vs socialist values any more, it's about the power of money above all else, and this is what is fucking society the most by a long way. Deregulation, privatisation, the reduction of the power of the state (and by extension this reduces the democratic power of the people, because the government has given all its power away to corporate and cash-heavy backers). We're fucked, and it's usually the right wing machine that lets it happen. Just look at their backers, and look at the decisions they have made. It isn't rocket science. |

I disagree 
What we need is not left or right per se, but just a balance that works. On the whole we had it, but we are losing it, and it isn't the fault of the traditional left or traditional conservatism. They barely exist anymore. The alternative we are currently being offered is toxic and it pervades both 'left' and 'right'.

Oh dear love, you have to wait, just like about 90% of people wanting the NHS services. You're 14 years old. A pubescent girl whose hormones are raging and you want it NOW. Something is very wrong in our society where everyone is encouraging her to 'change'.
Reece first came out as a trans boy in primary school. His family, friends and teachers were all supportive of him transitioning.
Since moving to secondary school, everyone has always known him as a boy, only referring to his new name and he/him pronouns.
How can anyone be trusted with a life changing decision at that age? At least someone in the article seems to have some sense.
Bev Jackson, from the LGB Alliance, a self-funded lobby group, said: "We don't think children should be allowed to self-diagnose any medical condition.
"The numbers of referrals are so huge that I believe this is a social problem caused by miseducation. It is impossible for the NHS to deal with all of these young people who are coming forward.
"We need to take a step back and ask why are so many young people presenting at the clinic for a gender treatment?"
Is it the virtue signalling society? Someone says something and no one objects because of ******phobic accusations.
