What's the moaning about? It was £549.99, but is now £399.99. There's no pleasing some. Rolling Eyes

Would love to see the back-up plan for when one of them clips fail through daily use, or the locking system jams up.

That type has been quite popular in France for about the last 30 years but not legal here until we adopted the E marking system due to no chin strap.

Interesting, would you wear one? I guess as delivery/constant removing, it would be useless, but if that wasn't the case?

I like my Arai's.

One of the types that was popular in France which I think the Gendarmerie used had swing up bits underneath instead of a chinstrap so it locked you in by the neck.

This is just an attempt to get around people not doing up the chinstrap and the helmet coming off in an accident.

Only concern would be if you came off and the hinge area hit something hard, would that impact push any of the hinge mechanism into the skull?
normally the helmet absorb those forces in that area, bit like wearing a camera on your lid.

A must have for someone who does not want to ruin their hair style pulling the helmet over their head Laughing

That would be the GPA, very popular in motorsport in the early 80s

I had one and it did the thing mentioned earlier, where the lock mechanism malfunctioned while I was wearing it - I had to get someone to attack it with a screwdriver, which wouldn't have been ideal if it had been an emergency.

Mind you, last accident I attended, the helmet was lying in the middle of the road with the strap still done up. It did not end well.

Was the riders head still in it?

No. But is that better or worse?

The trick is not to crash in the first place.

The question is why did the helmet come off if the strap was done up? Either the helmet was too big which is very common or the strap wasn't tight enough which often happens with cheaper helmets that have overly long straps

Same helmet Gilles Villeneuve (Ferrari F1 driver) was wearing when he was killed at Zolder in 82, the helmet flew off in the accident.

They were very comfortable helmets though, but in the 80's they made Simpson/Bell helmets look cheap by comparison.

I was coerced into road testing one for a couple of hours in 2016. They're a bit quieter than your average helmet, but they're designed for people without a chin. I wouldn't recommend.
