As opposed to paying the value of the bike each and every year to the insurance company, and have it probably double if you ever claimed for it getting nicked?

Surely the smart thing to do would be not to buy a bike with insurance you cant afford in the first place.
If they are so easy to steal and you live in a dodgy part of London then that should be enough reason to look for something better.

The way I look at it is if you have a bike that's valuable and easy to steal, you can't expect any insurer to give you a free bike each time. They're going to pitch their premiums so that they make money and cover their risk, and make a profit.

The more likely the risk is, the less efficient it will be to insure.

For reference my triple was around £200 FC to insure in Kent. It went to £450 FC when I moved to a BR5 post code. I sold it to someone who rode into London, it was stolen in 3 days.

I assume the newer ones are less nickable, so do a quote on one of them.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Well, they have an immobiliser but they are still light enough for a baby to pick up and throw in the back of a van.

It's an utter shame when you can't have anything nice because of thieves. Now where's that video of the bike thief being crippled by a shooter.

To be fair it's the ease of hotwiring that has caused them to become bike non grata in London. So a standard immobiliser is a fantastic step forward.
