My only riding companion has a Sena. I would like to do voice chat on rides.

Should I:
* Suck up the cost of a Sena unit to guarantee fuss free compatible comms?
* Get away with one of the off brand units (Fodsport M1S for example) and get him to run his Sena in its “talk to peasants” mode for other devices?

Been using my Sena for around a year, can't fault it. Haven't used other units so can't comment on that side but its always worked and piss easy to use.

I have used the high end Scala packtalk sets and found them good, even at high speeds. I bought 4 of the Fodsports M1S Pro units. They are about 85% as good and for my use (rider to rider mainly without too much distance between us, pillion Comms and music) I wouldn't pay more they are that good. The scala allowed communication up to about 100mph (with large screens), the M1S allows you to about 70 before the wind noise becomes a problem. Battery life lasts all day in either intercom or Bluetooth music mode (at least 10 hours, I've gone s good bit longer when I forgot to charge it). Audio quality is good. Range is also ok, about 500yards, a bit further if proper line of sight.

For 55 quid they really are excellent. Unless you need particularly high speed Comms or have a large group to connect at once id recommend the Fodsports units.

Edit: Just noticed you want to link to a Sena. I haven't tried this, only like for like.

That is a genius idea. Only potential drawback is the patchy mobile coverage when riding in the sticks.
