Agreed.
I don’t believe the forum is entirely to blame.
I think we live in a different culture now from when we all came to the mighty BFC .
Look at a lot of the newbies that come here.
They come here and thier first post is “I WANT help NOW”
They expect members to give them information and half the time they haven’t even got the good manners to say please or thank you.
I certainly won’t engage with some oik who turns up like that.
The fact that we are focused on bikes and not peds means a lot of younger people won’t entertain this site.
Maybe we should have a Ped-Boi section?
I don’t engage with the I WANT NOW types, and maybe that makes me guilty of not helping the situation.
However there are worse than me on here who are happy to be rude to newbies and even tell them to “fuck off”.
Trolling by childish individuals could possibly mean that the occasional newbie gets caught up in the nonsense and decides to leave and stay away.
My .
EDIT: Also there is a lot of hate for 125’s on this site.
125’s are where the new generation of bike riders are going to come from.
Maybe a bit more tolerance towards 125’s and possibly a 125/L-plate section might help introduce new blood?
However, again there are those on here who would not be able to contain themselves and would spend thier time in that section telling newbies how 125’s are shit and they must get thier full license NOW!. ____________________ I am the sum total of my own existence, what went before makes me who I am now! |

As a returning alumnus it saddens me to see the critical mass has indeed diminished somewhat with the absence of input from the more cogent patrons of yore. Hetzer, Borg and Elysium spring to mind. I also noticed the annual ritual has fallen into abeyance, it's like the decline of Rome |

Start talking up 125 scooters and you'd have lots of ppl on here, judging from London roads. Have to get all the posts auto-translated into 8 different languages... ____________________ Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, Yamaha XSR700, Honda Rebel, Yamaha DT175, Suzuki SV650 (loan) Fazer 600, Keeway Superlight 125, 50cc turd scooter |

The forum's pretty good, in the circumstances. I think it will be here long after Facebook has had its day. Facebook is far too flaky, and it seems to supplant, rather than complement, real life. Someone can come to this forum and ask for help or advice from strangers without clicking a button that says they can become a "friend" of someone they're never met and don't know anything about, and without being told they have just "joined a group". They can interact and share ideas and thoughts with people with a common interest minus having to see or participate in or comment on all the mess, without having to see their face or snapshots of the highlights of their holiday, and without pretending to admire their artwork or care about their kid having the flu. They can begin posting or they can go away, to return or not to return. For all these reasons, the forum is a better fit into a standard experience of human life, where social networking is much more limited than Facebook and where relationships with people, professional or social, are only built up with time, effort and commitment. |
