Good evening!

I am trying to find information on this motorcycle. All I know is that its a Sun, its 1957 and the frame number is XMC 1418 A

The intention is to restore it but I am trying to find out as much information about it as possible, there really isn't a lot on the internet that I can find.

I THINK its supposed to be a 99cc Villiers engine but I'm not 100% sure. Knowing this for sure would get the ball rolling.

Any information or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Can you drag it out and get more pics? Are you buying it, or selling it?

I thought it was an underwater shot.

This is all I could get for now and they aren't much use. Things are difficult right now with the "virus". I will get better pics in time.

How sure you that it's a Sun, and not a James or some other thing?

I was going to say from the first shot "That's lucky, you seem to have most ofthe bits", but... I do hope there's a box of pieces too, or that whoever it is will have a very good look around their "shed" before and when you get it!

Edit: I see it's still got at least one lug for holding the pump on. Perhaps the pump is also lying about...

Edit again: Is it/you actually in Norniron?

Let's see what turns up with it. That's half the excitement isn't it? I'm more used to working on HD and choppers so it's a new adventure.

I'm from NI but I'm working abroad.

This is a 1957 Wasp with a Villers 197/200cc model which has similarities
Yours has monza bars which were a fav 'upgrade' for yoofs back then.
Who knows what other mods and bodges were done

Age is registration based isnt it?
I reckon its probably the earlier 1955 Wasp model registered in 1957
which originally had Suns own 200cc lump fitted.
If that rusty old pile of bits ever get to a rolling chassis stage
I look possibly for a Villers lump as I doubt you'd find a Sun engine

Personally though, sod some stinky old 2T, I'd go for summat a bit more modern like a Superdream or even a CG lump for instance while keeping the 50s 'charm'
There were still a few of these old things about when I were a lad and they were smelly, smokey, slow and crap even then which is why Honda etc buried them.

While i'm rantin on..
That 57 Overlander pic keeps reminding me of the Ariel Arrow of slightly later vintage

I had one of those a while ago. I wish I'd never sold it. After some minor tuning it would nip up to around 90+, but there were big "gaps" in the gearbox. One place I used to know raced the things decades before, and had some bits, I nearly bought some alloy barrels which they'd had cast and said they'd port (not much good without!) for £ enough to make me feel faint, but the price of a 6-speed C/R gearbox made me want to yell, so I did not.

The frame number indicates '57.

My point was it came out in late '55 at best ( see advert)
and could easily have been produced for some years after.
It's not inconcievable it was still being made in '57 as
a stable mate/cheaper option to the Overlander

Have you got the engine munber? If its a Villiers then there is plenty of information that will tell you if its the original engine.
Plus point is every part for post war Villiers engines are available and reasonable prices.

I believe the correct term for these type of barn finds is

'Spares or Brave Restoration'

Good luck.
