A pair of dangerous riders overtaking one of our unmarked cars on solid white lines and do same 4 more times. A short clip from the 2 mile horror show. Blue lights and siren on, oblivious we were behind. Stopped, disqualifications applied for.

Own up who was it lol lol lol

Multiple crossing of the solid white line I think they call dangerous.

Do you have a ''overtaking forbidden'' road sign in the UK? I asume you do. Crossing the solid line in CZE means a fine + points, regardless of what you do. Overtaking in a zone where it is forbiden by the ''overtaking forbidden'' road sing means instant ban for several months and a fine.

The overtaking as seen in the video was alright by my standards. Not that I support committing traffic offenses. Motorcycles are narrow and quick, so overtaking is much safer maneuver than in a car.

The police potato cam does make it look as if they were deliberately leaning the bike over to go round corners - that can't be safe. Tut Tut

We do have such a sign, you are not allowed to use it when you have the solid white centre lines as well, one or the other is the rule.

They use both no overtaking sign sign and the double white lines on a road very close to me, I assume it had a heavy history of head on collisions and no one read the rule book. They have now slapped a 50mph limit on it as well.

I'd call that pretty dangerous TBF, and I've been busted for speeding 7 or 8 times over 30-odd years.

Dangerous? Hmmm? Yes I think there are a few parts there that I wouldn’t do.
A couple of times they were over or very near the edge of the white lines as they approached bends that looked like they would not be able to see oncoming traffic.

Looked smooth and under control there. Good lines, good obs, more considerate of the cyclists than the following car was.

We do it every time we're on a hoon, because it's totally different (safe) for a fast bike. White lines were intended for cars ffs.

Whether it really was dangerous or not doesn't really matter, the law is quite clear on overtaking on solid white lines. When it comes to court I can't see them having much of a defence at all, especially as they cross the lines multiple times. I may be getting old, but I really don't see the need to ride like this. There is already a fairly strong anti-biker sentiment in many parts of the country and riding like this just adds to it. If you want to ride like that do it on a track and if you get caught doing on the road don't expect any sympathy. FWIW, I hope they do get banned.

Fair point but you can often safely overtake swiftly with a bike and barely cross the solid lines they don't mean 'overtaking not allowed'
Crossing solid line is actually permitted for a range of reasons including passing very slow vehicle - it wouldn't stand up in court with that video though Laughing

My favourite of the twitter thread was about crossing the solid white to overtake the cyclists. Saying that is allowed ... only if they're doing 10mph or less, and that section appeared downhill. Even a fatso like me would manage 15mph + along that bit. So no, the cops shouldn't have been crossing the white line either. Add to that, they sure as hell didn't give 5 ft space to the cyclists either. But they had sirens and blues on they'll say. Yeah, overtaken an already startled cyclist without adequate clearance. And they call the bikers dangerous, but consider their own driving faultless.

Yeah, can't see a huge problem in that video. First, it's clear that the unmarked car was moving pretty slowly, in a line of slow-moving cars. Can't see any road junctions there. The lead rider was making the call as to visibility, and the second rider took the second overtake relying on the first rider's decision and his own brakes (on a capable and modern sports bike) to tuck in, in case something happened. There are certain roads with double-white lines where drivers inch along very slowly, and there's enough time to pull off a quick overtake, using the acceleration of a bike, even if there's a bend up ahead.

What strikes me is the perception of speed. The police don't mention how fast the bikes were travelling, and overtaking a vehicle is always safest when it's done as quickly as possible. The relative speed of the cars vs the bikes in that clip seems to have inspired a slew of furious comments on Twitter. Nobody bothered to have a shot at "photogrammetry". The criticisms all seem to be on the lines of "why should he be allowed to get away with breaking a rule", and they then tie this in with wild claims about speeding and "drag racing strips" on roads local to them. Nasty little bit of tittle-tattle going on there. Is this what the lockdown has brought us? What happened to "if you ride fast and crash, you're a bad rider", "myob", etc.
