So the Germans are thinking a pedo they have in clink took and killed Maddy.

It seems he had a campervan around the resort when Maddy was taken. Jobs included robbing holiday camps, drug dealing and even indulging in a bit of Granny rape and drove a Jaguar as well. Speculation is he took her on the spur of the moment while robbing the place OR was under orders from organised crime to take her. Phone records seem to be available for his phone that day.

Dogs can't tell a whether a body is a dead or alive unless it's started to compose.

They can follow a scent and can find people, whether dead or alive but cannot find dead bodies unless specifically trained to look for decomposed ones.

Cadaver dogs detect dead bodies.

Decomposition starts minutes after death.

A trained dog indicating that there's been a dead body wherever raises many questions if nothing else. It's still entirely possible that the dog was correct.

The evidence so far announced is very circumstantial but very compelling and 2worthy of full investigation.

The main question in my mind is whether this is a very cold case enquiry and hes only under suspicion due to crimes uncovered and prosecuted long after maddie disappeared or whether the original Portuguese investigators were remiss in investigating properly simply because they assumed the McCann's were behind it.

I'm making an assumption here but I don't think a cadaver dog would also be used for tracking. One involves thousands of hours of training and the other can be dealt with by any general purpose police dog.

It's possible it's him as he is a suspect in other disappearances of kids. Being near one missing young kid isn't too suspicious, but being near the location of 2 or 3 is does make him a strong suspect.

Until it can be proven that he did it the McCanns are still strong suspects. Kid dies from sleeping drug overdose is probable.
