Stupidly didn't move the car and thought i could get the bike through the gap as it was and scuffed the edge of my mirror on the wall.

The mirror is just the standard black plastic type.

Anyone know of the best tools, products to repair it or at least make it look a little better?

Cheers!

Smooth or textured black plastic? Pics of damage?

Put a sticker on it for when you do it again.

Textured plastic will be a bit of a bitch. Best get used to sanding to get both of the mirrors smooth. Or take the easy route and buy a new one.

You can sand out the scuff. Start with 220 grit to get the scuff out, then adjust up or down to try and match the texture. Use wet/dry and flush with water to keep the sandpaper from loading up. Some attached pix show how my BMW mirror turned out. Won't be perfect, but better than gouged/scratched.

That's the ticket.

If the finish is shiny you can also burnish plastics e.h. polythene, polypropyleye, with some tough rag stretched across a block. I haven't tried an orbital sander on textured finishes, but that might work too, perhaps there are videos...

Textured plastics are not at all difficult to repair given the right materials and a little effort.

In the industry we use a product from KENT Europe called Plaztex Black but that's not widely available outside of professional workshops.

UPol do a similar range but not quite as good called Plastx, which can be picked up on eBay.

Both will replicate the textured finish that you are after though.

Plastex?

It's the same stuff Women use as acrylic nail filler, nail filler (powder + liquid) is cheaper.

Thanks for al the tips. Ill get some sandpaper and look for the plastex stuff. Unfortunately the plastic is textured. Im not expecting to get it back to perfect, just less noticable than now.

Nope.

They’re a range of texture finishes in an aerosol for refurbishing textured plastics. Plastx is UPol’s brand name and Plaztex is Kent Europe’s brand name.

The Kent one is the better of the two, producing finishes which replicate the texture of pretty much any textured plastic but the UPol one is more widely available to those not in the motor industry.

When I had my bike painted I watched the guy paint my mirrors with that stuff. You honestly couldn't tell them from new.
