My 15 yr old son has just purchased his 1st project bike a Suzuki zr50k that has been in a garage for 18 years.
He has managed to free the seized engine and has got the piston moving again.
He is at a stand still now as he has no spark 😥 i don’t know much about bikes myself only a little so Iv had a look and no spark Iv new plug and cap and still no spark.
There is no battery as it’s more of a off road bike so can only see stator to a coil then from coil to plug.
Can anyone help suggest some test we can do to find out why no spark we have multi meter but also basic skills so need to be idiot proof 🙈.
Any help will be greatly appreciated to help get son back on with project.[/img]

Has the coil an input voltage (l.t.) when kicking the engine over?

To get a spark you'd need some volts coming from the stator then there's the coil, points/CDI, all the associated wiring and possibly a kill switch.

Start with the stator and just work along the chain till the voltage stops Smile

I had a ZR50 X1 for my first bike. I now feel old, that was 20 years ago.

It looks like you have an interesting collection of ZR50 (the road/commuter style bike) and TS50 (offroad) parts. Wheels are ZR50, tank and mudguard are not. So this has been a field bike at some point.

It should have a 6v battery. 6v electrical system. Not very bright headlights, I remember having to keep the revs up and pull the clutch in for corners at night to I could still see where I was going.

It has points ignition. These are probably corroded, so get a file between the points and give them a clean.

It is a 2-stroke, and did originally have an autolube system that worked very well. Check to see if this is still connected and working - someone might have ripped it out to run pre-mix. Oil tank is under the seat.

In standard, restricted form they were painfully slow, an original 30mph restricted moped.
