I've a problem, can anyone suggest an easy fix. I've stripped the engine, done valve clearance and stripped a bolt putting the head back on. The thread is stripped in the engine. What is the easiest way to fix this? the bolt just spins. I've been a little too keen with the torque wrench.

Help.

Yikes. How can you be 'too keen' with a torque wrench? The torque wrench is supposed to limit the torque you use, not incite you to monster it?

What bolt have you stripped? Is it one that goes through to the block or is it just a cover bolt? This is important information that will help us to tell you if you can helicoil it in situ or if you'll need to strip the motor.

You are lucky in the sense that it's a boxer so you have better access to the barrels and head than on many four strokes.

R100Rs or R1100RS?

EDIT: 'Ang on - do you mean cylinder head or valve cover? You wouldn't take the cylinder head off to do valve clearances.

Yes on the case. I've about 400 pictures of the rebuild. I'll upload some.

Drill out the snapped bolt, helicoil if you need to.

Get decent drill bits, make sure you're really well centred on the bolt, take your time. Its one of those jobs where a small mistake at the beginning means it takes ages to get the job done right.

You say the bolt spins, meaning only the thread into cylinder head is stripped, no bolt to remove. A helicoil or insert kit is the best option.

If the bolt is snapled, this video is relevant. Center on the chamfer, not the bolt. Dont try to do it cordless.
