I realise this may cover a lot of bikes for a lot of people.

But in my case, I really want a GPZ500 as a second bike.

I've never ridden one, I have no sentimental attachment to them and my Sprint will (objectively) do everything better. It's not even a rare or glamorous bike.

I think I like them because they are (relatively) cheap, vs something like a CB500, and I do miss my old YBR125 for having a quick blast to the shops or to visit my old man. It was a lot of fun riding a slow noodley bike 'fast'.

I've no space for one, it makes absolutely no sense to own one, but everytime I see one on eBay I pause.

GPZ5s are quick bikes. They'll do 125mph flat out and they reward thrashing with increasingly spritely performance. Way more fun that they should be, they were Kawasakis answer to the 350 powervalve. I'd certainly never describe one as "slow".

I want a Honda Grom but I have absolutely no use for one.

I also want an electric powered hardtail chop in a 70's style with apehangers and huge over-standard forks to ride to work on. Which in fairness, would probably be more justifiable than a grom...

I rode a GPZ, it was definitely better than the sum of it's parts. Comfy, stable but quick and nice turning. If we lived in a communist society and only one bike could be produced for all of us high ideology workers to get to our government mandated factory work, I really hope it'd be a GPZ500S.

You know the BMW F650CS? The ugly one with the helmet box under the tank and the belt drive? I've fancied one of those for ages. My commute is far too long for a naked bike these days, but if I was still commuting a few miles up the road, I'd probably have one. They are great value and I bet they are a hoot too.

I also regularly fancy but can't justify or afford (in no particular order):
Fast bikes:
ZXR750 L1
GPZ900R A1
Recent GSXR750
2008 Fireblade SC59
Tuono V4
Mondial Piega
SP2

Fun bikes:
Yamaha MT07/XSR700
Kawasaki Z900RS
Ducati Multistrada 1000DS

Stupid bikes
MZ ETZ 300 ( I had one before and it wasn't really useful but I'd have one again if I had tonnes more room).
Jawa (anything but I realise they are crap)
IZH Planeta

I keep fancying a ktm rc390 because I think they look cool, but having just got my full license I wanted something bigger. I wish they would make a 690 version. I am insured on my brothers 690smrc so at least I can ride that Laughing

I've a hankering for a Royal Enfield Flying Flea, or a D1 Bantam. Or a Black Douglas.

Would be far better off getting another YBR though.

An old KLR650. I don't ride off road or plan on travelling around the world, but there's a certain utilitarian appeal.

I looked at these last year, a lot of dealers where selling them for around £3500 brand new and having watched a few reviews and seeing Ari Henning's race-prepped version thought to myself, that looks fun.

But numerous reports of engine issues put me off. I think they would be fine, but EURO4 restrictions ruin them.

I used to hanker over an IZH "sprongbok". I bet you could ride that absolutely anywhere.

Or a Minsk Wildkat.

I'd cheerfully give either garage space.

Only one that springs to mind is a Laverda Montjuic 500. I've wanted one for years, mostly because back in 1980 they got a write-up as a mad thing. I know that now, they'd probably seem pretty tame to me - only a 500 parallel twin after all - but the hankering has never lessened.

They suck. Even Erik Buell said so. The engine was forced on him by Harley management who wanted to use it to capture the 'Youth Market' to get riders for life. It didn't work at that, because it was shit.

The XB's are fantastic on the other hand, and if you're prepared to deal with the quirkiness, the lack of parts availability and the quirkiness, it's a great bike.

Did I mention the quirkiness? The quirkiness does mean it doesn't ride like anything else. They are good, but I sold my last one as I never used it.

I had a gpz500 and it was excellent fun, prices seem mad now though, I think I got my '98 on for £350 in around 2007. Doesn't seem to be any anywhere near that price for sale at the moment.

Dorsoduro 1200 is my no-sense bike, tank range is far too small to be usable for anything other than hooning.

Suzuki A100. Preferably a K or L model.

Yamaha DT175MX.

No room for either but still objects of desire.

Another one for me: RD400, simply because I never got to try one.

I think they fixed a lot of the issues in the last few years, but that did put me off too.

NR750. With the rarity and value of it, I’d never take it out. Still want one.

I’ve always wanted a CZ 250 twin, I rode one many moons ago and thought “this is fun”.
We all know that they’re not brilliant bikes, but I liked it.
I have no use for it as I am not sure I would trust it not to break down Laughing

There’s not enough nice days in Blighty for me to even begin to contemplate owning a Busa or an old air cooled GPZ11OO.
Most of my bike journeys are relatively short , and that’s seems a waste of a big bike in my opinion.

I've got a few things for sale you might be interested in. An old cracked toilet bowl, not too badly stained; a ladder with just under half the rungs missing; some bits of rotted wood; a garden gnome with the head missing - all yours for just £500. PM me to arrange collection Smile

Another ZR7S. Makes no sense to go back to one, but loved how: reliable, simple to work on and cheap it was to run. I don't think I appreciated how good it was when I decided to sell it.

Fazer 600 . 2005 FZ6. NC750, at times.

Owning a CBF1000 I think I miss the loud sound of an IL4 cracking and annoying dogs, and working on it is annoying at times.

Z750, perhaps. FZ8 catches my eye sometimes, but seems flashy.

ZRX 1200 is one I defiantly want to own at some point, but prices are out of my reach.

I think anything that looks mechanically easy to work on gets my vote.

Embarrassingly I know but still want. I can't even reason to myself as to why, I just see a picture of one and want it.

I'd love a C90 and actually looked at getting one a few years ago, until I saw the asking price for a "project" bike! Got an ER5 instead which was ultimately a much more sensible hack, but I got bored and sold it a year later!

Still like the idea of touring on a C90; something about a simple existence appeals, maybe around Scotland or something, camping kit on the back, acknowledging that 40mph is my new top speed and taking my time up hills . . . but letting the place I'm in soak in (especially if it's raining).
