Hello, I am selling the Fireblade as it is to tall and I dropped in the chips because couldn't get a proper foot down. Pissed of about dropping it but anyway.

What would your recommend as a bike with a low seat, touring type of bike? I've got around £5k when the Fireblade sells.

A lot of bikes I've had have been to tall for me and when I can't get my feet down properly I lose confidence.

Without trying to sound too personal, how tall are you? I am 5'6" with a 28" inside leg and I ride an ST1100. I have only ever had 1 bike that I could put both feet flat on the floor on and it was a cruiser and I am really not into cruisers at all. How long have you been riding? With the right technique and practice you should be able to ride anything as long as you can get at least one foot on the floor. I know that dropping a bike like that can really affect your confidence, I know it did with me when I first started riding, which i why I ended up riding a bike I didn't really like and almost quit riding altogether. Being a shortarse riding big bikes just means I have to pay more attention when I stop the bike. I have learned to balance the bike for a couple of seconds when I stop, so I often don't have to put my feet down at all. If I have to sop for longer than a couple of seconds I look ahead at the camber of the road and decide in advance which foot to put down and I shift my arse and weight to that side of the bike and I try and avoid gravel and loose stones as much as possiblel. I really think that riding bikes that I once thought too big for me has improved my low speed riding technique a lot.

Have a look at https://cycle-ergo.com/

The small/tall threshold is around 800mm (31.5in).

I think Aaron has a device in development called, Inside-leg Pal.

Probably taking Pre-Orders. (Maybe Not a scam BTW.)

That goes with the MT07 (805mm) I've been thinking of. Depends on the balance of the bike but I always felt that one foot flat and the other on the back brake was safest at junctions anyway. Certainly something that annoys me about cruisers.

My mate at work is the same height as me and will probably be buried with his CBR600RR! (820mm seat height.)

Remember that is not only height that is the problem. The width of the seat also makes a difference, so a lowered & sculpted seat can make a massive difference.

How about a VFR1200F?

I'm a short arse too and have just bought one, there are quite a few examples around the £5k mark and they are really low, 0.2" higher than my old XJ6F and that's before I put a lowered seat on it.

Lovely VFR sound, and 170hp.

I have had a VFR1200, loved it really, but my wife didn't want to get on the back to do a tour so sold it. It's ever so slightly tall for me but I would have another one. Looks are marmite.

Best bike I've had to be honest. Would get another carbed one as they only seem to be increasing in value. Not great for wee weekend trips around Scotland.

Maybe one day again. Smile

Sounds like you just need a decent lowered seat that would also be more comfortable for the Mrs!!

This. A sculpted seat works wonders for midgets... Us lanky bastids have to make do with losing clearance by lowering the pegs.
