Hi,

Just thought I'd post saying hello before I put a wanted post up later.

Used to ride and used to frequently logged into this under a name/email I cant remember. Had some pretty good advice in the past from members.

I'm 29 - from the North West (Wirral) and short (hence the user name)

I'm looking for a budget bike to get me back on two wheels after a 2 year hiatus and getting a car (how Boring).

Hope you are all keeping well!

under a grand?? that's borderline project territory - how mechanically adept are you? anything at that price is probably going to want a few consumables and may even have an underlying gremlin hidden away

i did get a perfectly useable cb500 for iirc £750 a few years ago but even though i test rode it and gave the front forks a right fucking pogoing, i got home and there was oil down the left hand stanchion

then it turned out the PO was a cack handed arse who'd twatted a new seal into place and removing that to get a new one in turned into a couple hundred quid

bike was fine eventually and i piled miles on it, but the oem shocks went after about 20k of my ownership so that was another couple hundred

zx9rs can be cheap - but again, they'll need somethings here and there, they always do...otoh spares are often plentiful and affordable, not a grand cheap though

£1,000 can get you loads of decent bikes really. I picked up a brilliant Cagiva Canyon 500cc for £800, nothing wrong with it at all. There are loads if you want to look.

This is the Aprila version of the Wife's bike.

Same bike just a different badge.

It does depend on how far you want to travel to get that bargain.

If you're going for that budget, consumables are important. You either want to go at the top of your budget and make sure the bike is good to go OR look for something much cheaper and budget on having to replace things.

A set of discs, pads, chain and sprox, fork seals and bushes and two tyres could easily see the thick end of £500.

A GPZ500 might be a good bet. Consumables are reasonably cheap too (single disc on most of them etc). Post '94 model to avoid hand-grenade alternators.

Take condition over model preference for under a grand.
