Anyone out there that's a bit of a guru on the electrics for this machine?
So I've recently bought an engine complete with loom, CDI and coils, the project is a kartcross. I've just spent the entire weekend trying to get it running but I'm at a loss, I haven't got as far as getting a spark yet!

I'm hoping that one of you guys understand the "conditions" required from the CDI to start. From the electrical diagram and reading posts on here this is what I've got.

CDI inputs/outputs

crank sensor OK
carb position sensor OK
Green wire earthed OK
Black and white wire 12v+ OK
Pink wire 9v+ reference OK
Coils OK
Light green wire to neutral switch OK
Yellow and yellow & white pulse generator OK
Green and white- this is the one I'm a bit confused about. Does it require
to be grounded or is there another type of signal/input that I'm missing.

Looking at the diagram this is what I think it needs to run???

Anyone out there that is able to shed to some light on the matter....PLEASE.

TIA Kev.

Did that model have HISS? If so you need the HISS assembly from the ignition barrel - and the correct key.

No it's pre HISS, it's a more simplified approach where there's a diode in the ignition switch that regulates the voltage to 9v for the pink wire.

My blackbird 98/99 is HISS but it doesn't say so anywhere on the ignition.

i say this in case you're assuming it isn't because it doesn't say it.

The wiring diagram shows it to be without immobiliser, HISS came in on the hornet 2002/2003 I believe.

Didn't these also have a throttle position sensor - but wired into the ignition control module (rather than an ecu).

I'd say if you've got the 14-pin module, you'll need something on all 14 lines.

^^^^^^^ that is your G/W

- the full circuit is s/stand and clutch switch with diodes (in the fuse holder).

You do have the right diagram, yes ?
(Because I don't know what you have and I don't even know which diagram for certain you need.)

Are you certain your pink (snark!) is wired correctly via the bit that it needs to ? I'd have thought this was most likely an issue as it is deliberately not shown on most diagrams (and not for discussion in an open forum).

Did this actually run ?

Not running yet Sad

I believe I have the correct diagram, well all the wires (including the pink) correspond to my harness.

I've tried everything (I think) including a change of crank sensor and ICM,. The coils have the correct ohm readings.

Help!

I'm thinking it is most likely your pink.

It is generally undocumented for a good reason.
That *needs* to be correct before it will play.

You don't mention how you are testing the ignition - you do know it is a wasted spark type. It is easy to get misdirected when checking this, the whole setup works togther. And, you need a good frame earth to check one plug (at a time) - that paint can be quite good sometimes.

Of course, it isn't unknown for older Honda CDI units to fail.
