Hi. Just buying a GS 550 modified bike with no neutral light. Does anyone know if there was a facility for this in the original set up and whether it can be retrofitted.

Yes there will be, Get a manual and look for the neutral switch location. - possibly near the g'box sprocket

Beware of going for LED it will be flickering on and off all the time.

The neutral light switch is on the end of the selector drum. It should still be there as I think it also keeps the oil in the casing. Someone might have cut the wires off short though - if they have you'll need tp replace it or do some surgery. IIRC they used the same switch for the 550 as the models which used extra wires for displaying the gear position so you might have more wires than you need.
