Hi all,

Yesterday I sold my 1996 Honda CG125. I irritatingly lost the V5 so made an agreement with buyer that I would apply for a new one and sort things out from there.

I'm having troubles finding the VIN for the bike. Most websites seem to suggest that it should be a 17-digit number but I can't find such a number on my bike.

I have:

What I'm thinking is the VIN: 1TR011894
Chassis number: DST1J
Engine number: JC18E 5008387

Which of these (if any) would be the correct VIN to enter on a V62 form?

Cheers

Isn't it stamped into the metal on (probably) the right-hand (offside) of the steering-head?

Yep. That's where I got that first number from. I'm just concerned that it's not 17-digits

I should look for another number, that one does not look right at all. Thge whole thing should be on the frame, maybe it's been painted over. Look up "online VIN decoder" and look at the history of production.

As well as being on the right hand side of the headstock, it should also be on a metal tag fixed to the left hand side of the frame above the engine. You may have to remove the tank or seat to find it.
For your bike you should be looking for a number that starts JH, probably followed by the number 2, or possibly the number 1 or the letter A. The next four digits should be JC18. So the first half of your VIN should read something like: JH2JC18

On record at DVLCvnt?

Or an mot cert.
Last place that MOTd it 'may' have a record. They are obliged to keep records for a certain period. Maybe just a year.

Honda are usually pretty good if you can give them other details.

Thanks all - I believe I've managed to get the correct VIN from a Honda-approved dealer in my town.

It is now 17-digits and matches up with a partially-faded section of the VIN plate so I'm quite confident it's correct.

Now to deal with the DVLA... Getting on the phone to them seems almost impossible. Line constantly busy.

Got through to DVLA (trick is to phone immediately after they open).

Just to rub it in they didn't even ask for a VIN! All sorted now anyway. Cheers again all

Don't know about the UK, but in the states the VIN is on our insurance card. You'd think they would put the license number there, but no. VIN.
