Yeah I reckon the same thing, I'll take 1% better chances in this case you know. Also if it does go through, it will be written as taxed from 1st of July Thumbs Up

You can not tax a bike without insurance showing on the MID? Have you got someone elae to insure it?
Tax man is reasonably forgiving , I have been untaxed a few times for upto a week and never heard anything from it, going past many cameras, long journeys.

It is the riding uninsured and without a licence that will hurt.
Noone will believe you will stay on a 125, you'd be best to book the test and to show you will ride with a proper licence.

Hasn't that changed? You can tax a vehicle without insurance showing on the MIB. Something to do with taxing a newly bought vehicle because it won't show as insured for a while.

correct, you get about a 2 week amnesty before the DLVA says get it insured or we're taking the tax off.

Taking the test now will make no difference. The court will have no interest on what you did after the offense. It wont be considered mitigating circumstances.

Why tax it now? Confused

If for some reason the camera people choose to forward the details of your bike to someone who'll check if it's insured, taxed and MOT'ed then that person will see the date and time that you set the camera off and they'll see the date and time you taxed it.

It's the same as if you change the registered keeper, the speeding ticket will be sent to who the registered keeper at the time of the offence.

I reckon you're only going to get a speeding ticket which will be something like £60 however you've also now paid an extra £44 to tax the bike. Laughing

"I'll take 1% better chances "

It's not a 1% chance, it's a zero percent chance.

It's gone up, unfortunately. Minimum £100. You must have have been a good boy for a while (or at least you have not been caught...)!

It only takes one programmer's management to think "Oh, wouldn't it be a good idea if we integrated these systems...." and cross-checks will become automatic. Behold, the future.

The way I understand it is not all cameras are operational all the time - you may be lucky. You’ve got a nervous 14 plus a few days in front of you however.
Needless to say I’d assume you’ve been lucky and not been caught this time, and take the lesson aaay with you. I know (to a lesser extent) the fear you’ve got of the post man now for a spell...

Catch covid, then go a kiss every postman you can find and just maybe there won't be any left not isolating to deliver the nip to you within the 2 weeks. Thumbs Up

Going to have to do a milfhunter. Bend over and take it with a smile on your face.

Then move on, these things happen.

It would be such a shame if someone was to screen print this thread and send pictures of it to the appropriate police force...

As korn has said many times, the police watch this site.

It's a bit stupid to get caught breaking the law and then bitch on here and ask someone to take the fall for you.

Isn't it taxed from the first of the month? So even if it wasn't taxed on the day of the offence, he can show that there is now tax in force which covered that date.

When you buy VED it's dated from the start of the month and always expires on the last day of a month.

However he was driving an untaxed vehicle on the night of the 18th of July and taxing it at a later date doesn't change the fact the vehicle was untaxed when it was being driven on the 18th.

I don't think he'll be done for that though and anyway, it's small fry compared to unlicensed and uninsured. Attempting to pervert the course of justice is the big one now and he can really get in a lot of shit for that. Laughing

The road taxman is very forgiving. If you pay, they wont chase it, but with that said the op has missed sone months. I dont see any perversion of justice so far, all depends if he declares another rider when the nip comes through.

They will be interested in the ops other posts. Quite a few miles have been done on this bike, not just going up and down his street, makes me wonder if ANPR is turned on for many cameras and if it is linked up.

My opinion it is a sock and the bike is imaginary.

Yup, so far it's only been an attempt to pervert the course of justice.

Thanks for all your responses, its heartwarming to see your concerns for what happens next to my arse.

I've had some time to think and also tell my parents about what I've done. I'm not passing my bike onto anyone or about to do any sort of insurance fraud, I've made up my mind and I'm going to be honest with whatever comes through the post.

ANPR doesn't actually check insurance, it's a passive system and will not process a plate until told to do so. It is used for tracking and logging plates that are searched, so the police could retroactively track all my previous activity.

Also when I spoke to my parents my dad admitted he used to do the same and regretted it just like I did. He went to court for it and told me he was scared like me but in the end it makes you a stronger and wiser man.

I remember hearing the following story once...

"You probably won't have the stones for this but anyway...you need the help of a mate, who you'd pretend not to know (you just need his address and cooperation). He had a guy living there (on his couch) who heard you in a pub telling your mates you wanted to sell your bike. He arranged with you to test ride it (he told you he had insurance, that covers you for that bit), then ran it past a camera. You provide his details on the ticket (name and address), they then send the ticket to him (at your mate's address), your mate puts it back in the post box with "No longer at this address" (he's moved away). There's an outside chance the police will visit but it's a formality, all your mate would need to do is blow smoke up their ass ("I met the guy in the pub, he was down on his luck so I put him up for a few weeks etc, he's since moved on, no idea where").

You might still get done for letting somebody ride your bike with no tax but it's a lot less serious."

Absolutely disgraceful way to try and escape the consequences of bad behaviour, I can't condemn it enough.
