I seem to remember someone on here saying that 4k TV's don't show SD programmes properly. Is that the case?

New livingroom TV time soon after we redecorate and I'm going to put it up on the wall (which our present TV is too big and heavy, it's quite old!).

I thought of future proofing and getting a 4k one but at present we don't have any 4k programmes, (I'd get a 4k fire stick) but I presume they will be the norm in the not too distant future.

Good idea or just stick with a standard HD TV.

Cheers chaps.

I suppose if it's gigantic they won't look too good.
Can't see why being able to show 4K would in itself cause problems. Have a Panasonic here and not noticed anything, it's on the small size though to suit the room it's in.(42" maybe)
Some freeview -and others no doubt - it's the bitrate rather than resolution makes it look crap.

Yes, scaling is difficult, and showing an SD programme on a decent 4K TV even with the very best scaling algorithms will stick out like a sore thumb.

However, if you do want to buy a new TV I'd suggest looking at rtings.com

https://www.rtings.com/

I would be careful with 4k at the moment because 4k content WILL become more common with a new compression standard that has just been completed. However, some TV's won't support that standard... Wait a bit would be my advice, but at the end of the day we're all probably going to end up with 4k or even 8k TV's at some point.

8K TV? Wow, I don't think many news readers would want their blemishes and pimples shown in that resolution.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Depends on various things, you can get a 58" one for £350, or a 65" one for £450, so there is not a huge lot in it cost-wise.
