Conspiracy theory - should this be in NTDWI Wink

Anyway, A few days late for the fire at Nantes cathedral but they have detained a refugee from Rwanda.

What amazes me is this bit in the article.....

The Rwandan refugee was in charge of locking up the day before the blaze destroyed stained glass windows and the grand organ inside.

The bloke is not a French citizen, he was in discussions about extending his visa and he was a volunteer at the cathedral. I would have thought the security of a major tourist and religious site wouldn't be left in the hands of a volunteer let alone one who is a refugee that has not passed the checks required to become a French citizen.

Sort of like throwing the keys to some random helper at St. Pauls and telling him to lock up when you are done. Perhaps that is acceptable nowadays.

Similarly Notre Dame it seems odd that while (obvious risk factors) building work was ongoing they downed tools at 4pm and walked out - you'd think someone would be on watch 24/7 if only by CCTV.
Is Westminster Abbey just shut up at 5pm and left till morning Thinking

Released without charge.

Why the hell they thought they need to publish details of this volunteer before he was charged I have no idea.

At least it isn't like America where his face and name would have been plastered all over the media already.

It probably was in local news.

I don't think Rwanda is a Muslim country.

A small proportion is according to google but I was being facetious. I very much doubt it's a religious based action.

Sounds like the action of someone who is mentally ill, with a major axe to grind with either his employer or the almighty...

Can you have an employer if you are a volunteer?

Good point. It could be treated as 'unpaid employment', or if really splitting hairs, one could be said to be 'gainfully employed but not for financial renumeration'... He might get his reward in heaven. Not now, obviously...

Well this is a turn up for the books Whistle

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2021/08/09/catholic-priest-murdered-western-france-suspected-cathedral/

Quote:
A Rwandan immigrant under investigation for a 2020 arson attack in Nantes Cathedral on Monday handed himself in to authorities and confessed to murdering a priest that helped him find a home.

Police found the body of the priest Oliver Maire in the bedroom of his home in the Saint-Laurent-sur-Sevre, Vendee region early on Monday.

Seems the wishy washy wanky let the poor immigrant mental health sufferers go pervades France, too, and is just as messed up.

Is "helped him find shelter" a euphemism for "tried to touch him up?" Priest grooms refugee, refugee rejects advances and accidently kills priest, turns to arson to cover up crime...
