My trail bike MOT is valid until 25th July and tax runs out on 31st - so I thought I'd tax it now and avoid any last minute need to get MOT - not allowed though.
.gov site says it has no MOT but when checked they agree it is valid until 27th. Rolling Eyes
In any case I thought it would be eligible for up to six month extension how does that work.
Am I confused or is it them. I suspect the latter. Confused

For MOT, you don't need to do anything now, legally... all MOTs up to 31 July 2020 will automatically be extended by 6 months, but they don't add on the 6 months until a couple of days before the expiry date. If you check on 26 July, you'll find the expiry date has been extended to 27 Dec 2020.

I think you have no option but to buy the new tax after the MOT has been extended, because you currently don't have a valid MOT as of 1 August.

(Why do you think your MOT runs out on 25 July, when the online display says otherwise? Maybe you're confused... Wink )

It was tested on 25th July last year I don't know why they added two days on.
They agree it passed test on 25th here - https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/

Weird. My car was also tested on the 25th July last year, and says it runs out on the 24th on the Tax/MOT page and on the MOT History page.

(Mine should get an extension but I'll try to get it tested anyway)

EDIT: - Just thought, did your previous MOT run out on the 27th - remember you can test it up to a month early and get 12 months from the current MOT's expiry date rather than the test date!

It's first MOT was 28th July 2016 so that will be it, since then it's usually been done roughly a week before expiry.
That ought to e OK this year too I would think but it's the conflicting info they hold is rather odd.

Makes sense. Your new tax period starts after the current MOT expires so it’s natural you can’t tax it now.

It still hasn't been MOT'd but when I checked just now it says MOT extended until January and could do tax online (£44) Razz
