I purchased a 2002 Yamaha Fazer 600 at the start of the year and have been really enjoying it (only passed DAS in Nov '19).

I have only ridden it in the dark on a handful of occasions and have found that the lights are OK, but I feel I could benefit from something brighter.

Would converting the headlamps to LED be of use? or is there another option I could look into?

LEDS are only good for bikes designed to have them.

Fit osram night breakers.

What is it with headlights on many new bikes being total crap? Form over function? The twin Halogen headlights on my Pan European are excellent, better than my car's headlights.

Form over function. Generally speaking, large reflectors with perpendicular lenses will produce the best quality of light (from incandescent bulbs anyway), but they're deemed old fashioned looking, hence the move towards smaller reflectors, swooped lens covers to blend in with the fairing etc.. plus the fact that for probably the majority of motorcyclists, they will seldom get ridden at night, if ever.

OP: why not get some aux LED lights instead? Depending on if you're after high beam or dipped improvements, you can get (and adjust) accordingly. Save hacking about with the OEM headlight. Good shout to get uprated bulbs in the headlight too though.

Yes you can fit direct replacement H4 LED bulbs.

Some are £2.99, others are £35+... Guess which you should use.

I have one of these and it's excellent. It did need to be "tuned" by rotating the bulb on its base with the light projecting onto a wall until it formed a proper beam pattern then locking it in place with a grub-screw.

The MOT tester commented on how crisp a beam pattern it had.

These are good ones because they have a very low profile heat-sink.

You will need to find room behind the fairing/clocks for the little box of electronic tricks. Just under the size of a deck of cards.
