The only thing that I can thing of with oil fucking the clutch is it slipping due to additives.

What does the mightly mind of seedless90 think is making the clutch too grabby due to the oil?

Hey up Noddy, sounds like you have never heard of Viscous drag .
Next up is a fast idle / tickover.

I just replaced the oil yesterday with Castrol 10w30, suitable for wet clutches, but the problem persists. After a bit of reading I'm thinking there's grooves in the clutch basket.

Could be but a too fast idle/tick over speed can make the bike jolt forwards.
Noddy is the man to ask about this?

Well, get at it, and have a look. Have a gasket ready for the clutch cover (or something to make one out of). Keep the clutch plates the same way around and in the same order if you take them off so you can put them back as they were.

Just changing the oil will not get rid of the problem.
Plates will be soaked/coated with the old oil. If that was the issue.

What would you recommend doing then? Will the plates soak up the new oil with a bit of time?

I've ordered a gasket and I'll have a look once it arrives, thanks for the help.

The idle speed is 1400 rpm, surely that's not too high?

If it's "the wrong oil", I'd expect your clutch to slip, not drag.

Anyway, as you're going to be having a look, you will see what's what then. Photos when you do? Smile

Yeah I'll post some photos, I'm sure you'll be able to point out things I didn't notice.

I wonder if you will get abuse for saying that as well.
