Apparently it doesn't start at all, seller says it doesn't have compression. My main theories are bad oil seals, head gasket, possibly change piston and barrel at worst? A piston and barrel kit would run me about 100 euro.
Would it be worth buying or is it a scrapper? |
Where are you, somewhere in the eu I guess.
UK prices seem to vary from £100 to £900, with eBay sold brices showing they can be had, working, for around £450 at the right time of course, so the one you're thinking about at £135 gives you some leeway in terms of cost.
An engine seems to be between £20 and £200.
So were I buying such a thing, I'd ask myself "Can I do the job?"; "What is the general condiion of it (tyres, panels, battery, exhaust, seat, forks etc)?", "Does it look cosmetically nice or is it all scratched and bashed up?", "What costs are involved in getting it?"
I might be tempted if the rest of it was decent. |

The bike itself looks nice and well taken care of for a 21 year old scooter, apart from the engine problem.
Just to clarify, I don't intend on using this to commute or ride frequently, I just wanted a little project to work on, try to familiarise myself more with small engines, and given that this is a two stroke, should be relatively simple in that regard.
There really isn't anything cheaper, other than a 2010 chinese scooter for 100 euro which also doesn't work, but I reckon a branded one would be better.

What's the pic, is it the scooter itself? If you're doing the work, you might do the work and buy the bits cheaper than a "new" engine. At least then you'll have a known quantity. No idea who makes the engine. Chinese? Piaggio? You won't know the problem unless you can have a look.... |
