This carry's on from a previous post of mine.
No idle, no power, backfiring when bike decides to run. Basically impossible to use!
(£2300 down the drain)
Took bike back to dealers and they spent over 3 hrs (labour cost) fault finding it. Replaced throttle body and all associated sensors, adjusted valve clearance but it still ran like sh*t.
Scared of escalating labour fees I collected bike and made it home. I wanted to double check the purge valve and charcoal canister just in case so I removed them
and tried to follow youtube vids on fault finding ect. Then I'v blocked the hose leading to the inlet manifold and tried to start bike without the purge valve and charcoal canister and it started and ran a lot better!!!
The purge valves not stuck open and I have recently overfilled the petrol tank which then leaked out through the charcoal canister when bike was on side stand?
So do bikes need these two items to run? Can they cause all these problems Iv been having?(emissions issues aside for a minute.)
Thanks for reading all this guys and any idears / tips are appreciated.

Saturating the charcoal canister can definitely affect smooth operation of the motorcycle. I overfilled junior's Sportster one time, and it ran like crap for 30 miles or so. Fortunately, I knew the cause of the poor performance was self inflicted, and so just kept riding until the cannister purged itself and the bike soon ran normally.

Sometimes the systems can self destruct over time. For example, I emptied the charcoal out of the evap cannister on my R1150R after the charcoal pack ruptured and it sucked little charcoal beads into the connecting hose and purge valve. The system plugged solid. I cleaned it all out, and the bike runs perfectly with stock emissions control (except no charcoal in the cannister).

Your bike does not need the emissions control system to run properly, and you can probably find instructions on how to remove it. If you do, keep two things in mind. 1) removal of the charcoal cannister, purge valve, etc, must not create a vacuum leak in your fuel system, else the engine will run lean. 2) the fuel tank must have a free and clear vent to atmosphere for the fuel to flow properly.

I never bothered with the services, every 6mths or 500 kilometers. I covered
5000 k since I purchased the bike last october.
I was just unlucky, was trying to save some money and it backfired!

Gonna px on a new Zontes and swallow the loss. The companys giving me a reasonable price considering it runs bad.
