Although this is a video i thought it'd be better placed here. Don't know about you, but i didn't know wheelies pretty much automatically come under Dangerous Driving, with all the penalties that that entails.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DVPeZg4Imqw
Going to be a lot more careful in future, i think.
Always annoys me though, when some people say if you want to do it, do it in a field, or an old airstrip, or on a track. No tracks allow wheelies that i'm aware of, good luck finding a field where no one's going to mind, and how many old airstrips are around where you're not going to get chased off or reported?
In Germany, as much as i hate all their other restrictive laws, wheelieing is seen as a minor infraction and on its own at worst might earn you a telling off by the polizei.
Dammit. Why is it that anything that's any kind of fun these days either bad for you or massively illegal.... ____________________ A Guide To Powerbands |

So in other words, don't stop. If you're gonna lose your licence anyway...

I've been caught 4 times, and only "charged" once. If you do it properly I don't think it's that dangerous at all, but I've seen so many power "wheelies" that make you think they pretty much deserve to get in trouble for being an embarassment to the word "wheelie". ____________________ Blue_SV650S wrote: it was a sh1te wheelie, but it proves that he can get it up in 3rd and can do angles. You can wheelie as much as you want if you go drag racing. You won't get good times though.
You can also kill your engine doing wheelies. A mate of mine seized his SV650 through repeated wheelies and drag starts because all the oil went to the back of the sump away from the pickup. He had to rebuild it and weld baffling into the sump pan. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. I did the 2010 Round Britain Rally on my 350 Bullet. 89 landmarks, 3 months, 9,500 miles. |

I've done a few, most have been done in error. I just don't fancy wrecking my bike, fork seals. flipping the bike, engine damage etc.
Most of the people I know who can do wheelies on tap have either had access to dubious bikes in their youth or used other people's bikes to practice on and make all the errors on those, walking away when it all goes wrong. |
I still consider myself a complete novice at wheelies but I learned on a 2016 S1000RR which I probably couldn't afford to replace if I binned it. Just learn slowly and over time with baby steps.
The fear many people have about looping a wheelie whilst learning is exactly what stops you from looping in the first place.
It's when you don't fear that and go balls-to-the-wall on your first 10 attempts that you're at risk of looping it. On the flip-side people who are very close to the limits & 12 o'clocking their bikes all the time are also most at risk of flipping.
Your consciousness of self preservation is a good thing, use it to your advantage and go bang the front up.
I was doing 1 inchers for weeks before I learned to power it up for more than a second, then progressed to clutch ups. I'm still chasing the fuck out of them to the end of second gear and haven't learned to shift yet. Want to carry them for longer but self-preservation and the fear of being caught has any progress utterly gridlocked right now.
Once you get started the goalposts always move though. Once you start learning you'll probably want to do them longer, higher, whatnot, until eventually you loop it.
I just realised this reply is probably tef-length at this point, sorry. |
