i have been out of the great PC upgrade race for some time.
However my my i5-4590 / Z97P Mobo / AMD R9 290 is starting to show its age.

i mostly use the PC for work and i do like to play a few games.

really interested in the new 30X0 GPUs given the massive jump in performance for a sensible price.

but then comes the question of upgrading the rest of my system to accommodate the new card, or is that really a requirement ?

Just really mulling it all over...

others must be eyeing up the new 30X0 cards ?

4th Gen i5... 2010, 2011? Probably time to think about a complete rebuild. A new GFX card would cheer things up but I suspect that combo you have might be a bit of a bottleneck.

indeed...
but when i start putting a list of parts together it never seems to end.

i read the i5-10600K is a good CPU for the money @ £250
For no real reason i have always favoured Intel as opposed to AMD.

But when it comes to the 10th Gen Mobos it seems to be anything from £75 to £750.
Never been massively keen on the overly fussy Mobos.
not really interested in trying to overclock systems.

A simple mobo which will not hinder the CPU/GPU
capacity for a single M2 drive and 16GB of DDR4 would be fine.

am i pissing in the wind by going for a sub £100 mobo like the Gigabyte Intel H410M H
which seems to fit my needs.

I'm still running my i7-2600K (@4.4 GHZ) and a STRIX GTX 1070 ...... I too need to update.

I'll probably go for an RTX 3080 (3090 would be nice), but I'll hold off until Intel get their ass in gear and release a CPU which supports PCI-E 4.0 ........ potentially DDR5 ram as well.

So, it'll be next year at the earliest for me .......... means I should be able to then easily decide which 3080 to go for ........ the FE looks fantastic .... I hate the triple fan and shroud designs.

Good luck in building your new system Smile

All the best ... Barry

I've had the most luck with Gigabyte over the years. Currently rocking one of their Ultra-Durable's, a rung under the gaming stuff.

As for chipsets unless you want to do something exotic like run 2 video cards anything would do, better chipsets = more lanes.
