Considering re-using some of my (quite cool looking) retro kitchen units..

They are white* MFC with extruded aluminium handles running the width of the doors. Anyone has success in painting melamine? Tips?

* some are still white several are now a little 'mottled'.

Try cleaning them up with oxalic acid.

You want to de-grease it, you do, and apply some primer to it that contains a solvent that attacks it, so it will stick. I wonder what.

Doesn't painting melamine kind of defeat the point of having melamine in the first place?

Well yes I guess so.. The white surface are mottled some bleed through. I wouldn't bother but i like the retro look of the full width aluminium handle..

I haven't done this. But if I did, I'd look at wrapping the doors rather than painting them. One of my neighbours did this and told me they had to dry with a hot air gun where the wrap stuck properly to the surface of the door and the slightly rough surface was retained. Looked ok!

Good call I did also spot that option - there's some lurid coloured stuff on Amazon..
