Boat owning friends of mine inform me that boat is actually an acronym for Break Out Another Thousand Laughing

Have you ever started a bike project that you though might take a few months but turns into a two year rabbit hole that you thought would never end and cost more than you expected?

Have you bought expensive helmets, leather jackets and other kit that seemed like a good idea at the time but you have come to regard as expensive, uneccessary and egotistical indulgences

No - at least, not yet. My lid budget is always £50 - turns out the cheap ones fit the best. Comfiest on the skull, tightest on the cheeks. Good SHARP kind of helps. Boot budget usually 50 to a ton. Jacket ditto, trousers I sometimes go up to a 150. Bike budget is always what's the most bike I can get for the least money. Black bird is up there but I have to back off due the roads I prefer riding which are unmarked lanes and b-roads so early 00s sports (tourey) stuff wins out.

The whole idea with this shit is that everything pays for more time on the bike and more fuel. The cloth is a piece, so cut it how best you can with the goal of riding always the priority.

Oh wait - I did once get some Sidi Couriers. 300 quid boots I've never worn. They were meant to be for green laning but I way prefer my wulfsports (which seem to be made of solid oak - i call them the douglas barders). Being up on the pegs on these is so much easier on ankles and knees. The Sidis are too short and shit.

Check out the Yamaha Thunderace - you can get a nice low mileage example for not much money - the bike has loads of power and top end - and although it looks kind of slabby and bulky - it's much lighter and handles much better than it looks - it was weirdly (due to it's size) good at tearing around London and slicing through traffic - but is comfortable enough to make an excellent high speed sports tourer - it's a real hidden gem.
