I agree with a lot of what has been said about 'cafe racer' projects and how they often create a worse looking, worse perfoming bike than stock - so what is the point etc?

I've always been a fan of the Hornet - and I think this Hornet subframe kit compliments rather than detracts from the bikes looks - what do you guys think?

Looks OK, quite cool in fact but where do you plan to fix the number plate and rear light?

Say 'the swinging arm' and I'll come round and punch you hard on the nose.

It’s not so bad, nearly?

Do not put the number plate on the side or the swinging arm or I will provide Mr A100 with a bat Shocked !

Looks cool but I suspect a fair way from being finished/road legal. I'm assuming the picture is just a mock-up to show the subframe.

Seat unit looks like it's just balanced on top, which will be handy because it'll be easy to grab next time they're on the way past to put the bins out.

It would probably look well with a ducati monster seat unit/tailpiece.

I don't get it. It's just a Hornet with the tail unit removed, and a cheap nasty seat tacked on.

Looks like it has a custom made bolt-on trellis subframe on there to me?

To support the cheap, nasty seat, you mean? Laughing

How long before the constant pelting of stones, water and other crap wrecks that rear shock and various other bits behind it?

Doesn't do it for me, especially not on a hornet 900 (I loathed mine compared to Fazer 1000).

Probably OK if you're the sort that washes the bike after every ride. Not much room to put my topbox and throwovers.

I've seen better cafe racers. It would be better with a retro Thruxton style half fairing.

The greatest looking cafe racer is still the Ducati Sportclassic Paul Smart rep, and really not many have approached that in terms of style.

I feel it's a bit bandwagon-y. I dislike things that are bandwagon-y.

Maybe you could just buy the subframe from him, put it on the mantelpiece or something Laughing

It looks pretty cool to be honest, Hornets always seemed a bit "bleh" so I've got no objection to improving them. Looks like something Ogri would ride.

Will look a lot less cool once you've fitted a number plate and a set of indicators that don't get melted by the pipes. And a rear hugger if you've got any sense.

You're not messing with the essential mechanics though, so could be a lot worse.

Ogri rides a NorVin. Northon featherbed frame with a 100cc v-twin Vincent engine in it named Armageddon.

The above is a very long way away from being something Ogri would ride.

Yeah - after my intial excitement I was left thinking that the addition of a number plate on the back will probably ruin the whole look.

Yeah - I saw a Hornet 900 with the Ducati Monster seat and it looked ace.

Good point - not very practical on real roads - A hugger would definitely be in order.

Or just get a ducati monster from the off if you want nakedness and trellis frame.

Yeah - I like the fact that it's still obviously a Hornet - but with the rear simplified and scaled down - which accentuates the engine and tank.

Yeah I heard that the Fazer was more inspiring than the Hornet 900 - also that a lot of people rated the Hornet 600 over the 900 in terms of pure fun.
