I can set up a group, to text person A, person B and person C; however, when they get the message, they reply and only I get their reply.

How to make it so that when A, B or C hit "Reply", we all get it, and subsequent repliues go to all?

Hm. I tried opening the messaging app, going menu->settings->advanced->group settings, select MMS reply to all recipients (select SMS to revert).

That seems to work. On the group messages display, it says: "This conversation is now a group MMS. Everyone can reply and see each other's messages".

Unfortunately, one recipient replied: "Message is a download? Can't get them". Perhaps they have some primitive device or are charged for MMS.

Reverting to SMS shows on the group messages display: "This conversation is now a mass text. Each recipient will receive an SMS message from you. Replies will appear in individual conversations".

Blast.

Edit: Non-receiving contact said: "I can't get MMS" !!!! I wonder why. Will have to have a look.

As above, WhatsApp does all that and more. Laughing

I don't want it, though. SMS is only through a bit of software, it should work (and it seems to, apart from one person with an old Samsung Galaxy S device I gave them (which was free from a M$ TechEd A Long Time Ago)).

SMS is the wrong tool for the job.

Is there a specific reason why you only want to use SMS?

There'll be some way of making the old Samsung Galaxy S device do what you're wanting but there are easier and better solution available. Thumbs Up

1) Yes, it doesn't work, hence MMS which does.
2) Yes.
3) I suspect it's just a setting, or just possibly the account holder's contract.

SMS isn’t the right tool for group messages. It’s not what it’s designed for. Careful using MMS cos your carrier might charge you for each one sent.

Use whatsapp, signal, or anything with group messaging designed into it.

If some people are having problems sending or receiving MMS messages then I expect that's because by default MMS is disabled with their network provider to prevent people unwittingly building a huge bill.

Those people need to contact their network provider to ask for MMS to be enabled, they'll have to agree to the charges and you'll all end up paying a fuck load to do something which could be done better by any one of numerous free apps.

Why are you wanting it to be done by SMS or MMS rather than anything else?

A lot of carriers charge extra for MMS and it may be disabled by default.

For example, it's not included in any GiffGaff 'GoodyBags' - MMS messages come out of your credit balance. No credit, no MMS.

Some will send you a link that lets you download the media portion of the message over t'internet instead.

MMS is a now regarded as a legacy system and is poorly supported

TL/DR

Don't use MMS, it's shite, use a messaging app instead Wink

What you want doesn't exist in a good enough state to use.

WhatsApp works perfectly....

Are you anti WhatsApp for a reason?
