Hi all
I have just looked at the cost of booking a mod 1 through the GOV website.
It says its only 15.50
Is that right?
I could just bring my bike down on a trailer and have a go for 15 quid?

Im currently having lessons (which are going well) but i feel theyre stringing it out unnesscerily

that's the right price, I was surprised too but it's probably because the mod 2 is more expensive.

I think you also need insurance for the mod 1 which doesnt really make it worthwhile if you are already doing it with a school. How many lessons have you had so far? When I did my DAS I just did 2 days training and a few hours practice before each test. I did have a 125 for a while before that, but I've seen others do the same without it.

Yes that's correct, but as above insurance is the "gotcha" of the whole thing and makes anything but A1 (125 cc's) category probably a bit more expensive than it needs to be (subject to quotes).

In a nutshell attempting to get insurance on a large bike (which I assume is the meaning here) with only a provisional license would, I imagine, cost an arm and a leg. I know you need to sign a declaration that the bike you're using for the test is insured, but no idea if you need a PDF copy (on a phone) or print out of one when doing it yourself (looking at the list of docs required during, or after, booking would answer this; but in either case I wouldn't attempt to out-smart them by lying about being covered if you are not).

Examiners are always overly weird with people that attempt to go it alone (inspecting bikes, finding just about any reason to create an issue with you).

There is no short cut. The whole things a hoop jumping exercise.

Here's to hoping you only have to do it once.

Good luck getting a mod 1 at the moment. They're selling faster than the Dvsa can release them. That may be why it's taking time. Try getting insurance and see if it's worthwhile.

I was going to ride my bike down for someone's mod1 and they have a friend who was going to take my own bike down for me (both a2 an a compliantly).

For your own bike, not worried about insurance with mod 1 as off the road.
For mod 2, I'd get insurance on the day before the test, starting on the date of the test, if you pass the test, you already got it with an accurate start date, and can ride off happily ever after, if you don't, you can usually cancel it within the first couple days.
