Some of the "influencers" have been making the opposite argument on the youtubes.

the vram used in the 3080/3090 is GDD6x where as with the 3070 its just DDR6.

apparently the x account for a considerable jump in Vram bandiwdth.

any of the 3x would be a big jump on my current set up.
so what do i know.

Hey I was only going by your first build specs that had a 2080 specced in, which uses the same ram as the 3070.

Yes the 3080 and 3090 are more powerful and faster.
I am just saying that for video editing, even with the faster ram you would be better off spending the money on optane.
If it was a pure gaming rig, of course I would go for the 3080/90.

If you can get both the 3080 and optane, the system would fly.

Edit: Just to be clear, the 3070 has 512GB/sec bandwidth. In video editing, how would you be bottlenecking that?

It's important in gaming for shifting 4k textures in and out, but you'd never get close to using that bandwidth in adobe premiere and the like.

You need to decide if you are speccing a video editing rig or a gaming rig.

the new AMD cards are due Nov.
apparently just as good as the Nvidia cards, but maybe you can actually purchase one.

Fingers crossed what a shitty launch of a product, would have been better to hold off but guessing they wanted to be first out.

the only website i check on a regular basis is

https://www.scan.co.uk/shops/nvidia/rtx-30-series-faqs
they make the effort to communicate daily about the stock situation.
they are doing the same thing for the new Zen 3 CPUs as well.

My advice would be drop prem pro! Used it for years and its still a cluster fuck of a PC platform. want to edit..final cut pro makes it quick and easy ( does really mean buying a mac tho) want to cut and shut and colour grade..davinci resolve. its free so you can try before you buy if you want the added extras. but prem pro should be working with your current setup. do the basics first like make sure your CPU isnt throttling back due to needing a better cooler or the heat paste has failed!! sounds daft but you see it a lot in older systems or game/video editing rigs

Had very strange problems of late.

Computer was running fine for about month but then all of a sudden i started to notice some strange things happen. I had 256 gig running fine at 3200mhz no issues.

Now and again windows explorer would lag before opening then open multiple windows.
Premier Pro started to stutter with playing back footage.
Rendering 4k footage would be fine for uncompressed mov but on mp4 it would start and then hang looking at cpu it was under 10%, memory the same and GPU very low. Now again again i would cancel the render and then it would hang windows and require reset switch.
Checking temps the pc would idle at 45 and then highest would be 77
Removed all the ram and put in 2 sticks at 8 gig and still got the same problems
I have done memtest on single with the 8 gig in and no errors but that was set at single cpu by mistake.
i am on day 2 of it doing multi cpu with 256gig ram and its finding loads of errors on CPU 16

I understand this is a memory test but im not that technical is this pointing to memory or CPU issue?

just a long shot but run a cpu bench test that shows if you are having to cpu throttle due to temps. my pc from new had a crap heating issue due to bad thermo paste making it throttle back after 60 seconds of full use!!

I think you have per-die temperature sensing with that AMD CPU, might be worth checking if one is deviating widely from the others.
