Anyone bothering to watch the latest lot of shouty-shouty people on the latest attempt to regurgitate the same old/same old ??

"Freddie Flintoff, Chris Harris and Paddy McGuinness return with a new drive-in studio. They also visit Paddy’s home town of Bolton to test three new company cars by spending 24 hours in them - with no getting out. And Chris heads to Italy to test the blistering Ferrari SF90 supercar."

That was the only thing that made me laugh.

The company cars thing was totally boring until Flintoff stuffed the Volvo. I'm sure when he was doing the car park race it had miraculously repaired itself though.

I watched it, and was laughing all the way through it

No, it is no longer a motoring journel show

Yes, it is a pure entertainment show

If you don't like the chemistry between the presenters/actors/contestants, you will never like it, just like any other number of "entertainment" shows i could mention....... each to their own

As with the rising of the sun, the changing of the seasons and Paul McCartney singing Hey Jude at the end of a big event, the inevitability of the “Top Gear is now shit” thread on a biannual basis is in fact crushing. It hasn’t been a car show since the mid 90s and everyone misses Clarkson Hammond and May. It’s always been scripted and you don’t legally have to like it.

In a way, can we say that the show has evolved? I'm just not sure if it's for the better or otherwise.

It's certainly better with the present 3 than it was with the ginger whinger or the subsequent line up. I can even tolerate Paddy McGuinness in it although he does start to grate after a while.

I quite enjoyed the last two. McGuinness is annoying but he’s the Clarkson analogue, I think someone other than Flintoff might be better. Harris is obviously great and will always be great.

The wall of death was awesome, the super cars last week were a lot of fun although I can’t believe Paddy bloody crashed one and the wall of death was interesting too. The hire cars were a lot of fun this week, and I sort of enjoyed the family car bit.

As I mentioned above, when will people just not watch it instead of watching it and then gleefully declaring they hate it? I feel like making the effort to say that you can’t even make the effort to comment or even to type +1 etc is immensely hipstery. “Oh I’m too cool to like Top Gear, I liked it before it was good, now where is my beard oil and my checked shirt?”

Well I watched it back in the eighties with Tony Mason, Chris Goffey and Tiff Needell. It’s a programme featuring cars so it’s already got the advantage over bake up, sew off and pretty much any other ‘popular’ programme. As I said, you don’t legally have to like it, you’re allowed to think that the Clarkson Hammond and May episodes were better and it hasn’t been a ‘car show’ since I was a child.

Although go back and watch some of those old eps on Dave and You might find they haven’t aged that well IMO...

How much of someone's licence money will be needed to repair that Diablo. Laughing

Insurance. The issue is going to be insuring McGuinness to drive cars owned by private individuals from here onward I think.

I did not like the old top gear cos I could not abide that Pontificating Twat Clarkson and his two yes men. And as somebody says it is a entertainment show and Mc Guinness and Flintoff make me laugh as for Harris he just makes the number up.

Really? He's the only real 'car person' in the trio. The only one who can actually drive (he's had a pretty decent racing career). And the only one who is good at explaining engineering principles. I personally would watch his solo stuff all day, and in fact was a big fan of his DRIVE channel on Youtube.

I like it, their antics make me titter in a way that very little else on TV can manage. Sure some bits are weird or overly long (wall of death? 24 hours stuck in a car??) but I appreciate the effort they put in not to repeat the supercar-races-public-transport episodes of yore and the other stuff that was done to death.

I've watched all of this season so far. It's alright - not blowing me away but it's been watchable and enjoyable in places.

Cringed the second it became clear Freddie and Paddy came along for the ride in supercars in damp conditions on those roads - just knew that was going to turn into disaster.

The Lambo people carrier versus Audi was pretty naff.

I was surprised how much I warmed to Paddy and enjoyed watching his 'home tour' around Bolton; it seemed genuine enough that the people there love him as a lad done well.

I think Chris has grown into the TG role - he was a bit caricature of himself in earlier series but seems to have settled down a bit now. Like Marjay, I think he's decent. Loved watching Chris Harris On Cars.

Chris Harris sat down with Joe Rogan in 2014 - never seen this before or knew it even happened.

Quite interesting Thumbs Up

Thanks for that, yeah it is quite interesting.

It's weird, I agree with a lot of what he has to say, we share a lot of opinions about cars in general and the industry in particular, but I've never been able to warm to him.

It was fascinating hearing him talk about Top Gear and saying that nobody wants to do that kind of show, because it will always be a pale imitation (yet I always thought he came across as Clarkson lite on his YT channel) but now here he is, not only doing it, but positively embracing it.

In fact, he finds himself being a peculiar amalgam of May, Clarkson and Hammond, the small angry man, that likes to drive fast and knows a bit about how cars work.

I do think this latest incarnation of TG has been the most successful
since Clarkson et al and maybe that's why, Flintoff and McGuinness do the cocking about, while Harris does the car bore stuff, so from an audience perspective, it has a foot in each camp.
