Hello lads, I’m after a rough quote to have my single cylinder head gasket re threaded, as rushing to put the spark plug back in I’ve cross threaded it.

I know different garages will charge different prices etc but how much am I looking at roughly. I’ll take the head gasket off and give it to them so they don’t have to take apart / reassemble.

Thanks

It'll be the cylinder head not the head gasket. Laughing

As you're doing all the hard work it'll probably be about 50-80 quid mark to drill and put in a timesert or equivalent. About 30 mins labour. You might get it cheaper than that if they can chase out the threads with a tap without using an insert. Depends how determined you were at forcing in the plug.

Take the plug with you so they know what size to use.

what bike/scoot?

If as HKPhoeey says, it's not too bad you might be able to
run a 14mm tap in from below to fix it
Otherwise, I'd be looking at something like this and do it myself
Why pay a garage for something you can do yourself?

If you don't want to do it yourself I'd bring it to a engineering workshop not a mechanic. I've heard from a few people that timeserts are a better repair than helicoil. I've only used helicoil so can't say for sure.

Yeah somewhere around £40-80

And yes take it to a engineering shop/repair specialist, you want it done right or your cost goes right up. Doing the right thing pulling the head too, will save you a lot of ££

I think I payed £45 to have a new thread inset in a wheel a year ago, I would expect a little more as doing a head is a little more complicated.

If there is access ! Timesert in place £50-£70
Bring just head about the same

We have timeserts for 10, 12 and14mm plug threads but cannot do Honda steped 10mm both std and taper seats can put to 10mm by 19mm for different plugs

Always worthe a look I seen heads that just needed a tap run though
