hi, i'm a new member and would like to know if any member has bypassed the cdi on a 1985 yamaha srx 600 or knows how to do it.
any help or advice will be appreciated.

You cant bypass a cdi. It's like saying ' has anyone bypassed a spark plug?'

Capacitor Discharge Ignition. Without it you dont get a spark.

As above, the CDI is an utterly neccesary part of the ignition system, the bike won't run without it.

I don't think they are restricted in any way, even Jap. imports, the motor isn't powerful enough to fall foul of Japans maximum speed and BHP rules. Worst you'll get is an orange light on the clocks if you're speeding.

The only "bypass" I can think of within the context of old bikes is to drop the electronics for a simple points system. You'd only do that if the factory system was crap and points would be more reliable but TBH the crossover in that Venn diagram is very small.

I've already worked out his issue with what he said, he either has no CDI cos hes robbed it and thrown it because 'its a tracker init' or hes merely bought a non runner with no CDI and wonders why it doesn't run. Laughing
