|
|
Hello folks,
I'm new to customize bikes and thought I would try to change handlebar on my bike, so I bought a new one. Only to found out that the stock bar I have on my 2009 Kawasaki vn900 custom is directly screwed in the steering head on two points 90mm apart and the new one needs a clamp mount. Got from the retailer that it would fit my bike and model.
So my question is regarding these clamp mounts, I found a lot of different ones, are two single clamps enough to really secure the handleblar? Or would the best be 1 big clamp mount, or even sending the new handlebar back and look for one that is made like that stockbar?
Anyone else who had to do this change or is it always like this when buying a new bar, the need for some extra parts to fit it?
Adding this link if it helps to see how the handlebar is attatched to the steering head.

Two clamps are the "normal" way of attaching handlebars. There are usually two size options. The vast majority of handlebars are 7/8 of an inch in diameter. Some custom bikes use 1 inch diameter bars.
If you fit "apehanger" bars with a very extreme lift (hands above shoulder height), there is some risk you could rotate them forwards in the clamps under heavy braking due to the amount of leverage. These may benefit from cross-pinning. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”
I did the 2010 Round Britain Rally on my 350 Bullet. 89 landmarks, 3 months, 9,500 miles. |
