Biden would be the oldest president the US has ever had but it's not like he's going to be in the position very long.

Roll on 20 years of President Harris...

Looks like my county has returned Trump (57% at the moment, with only the odd mail-in ballot outstanding and not enough to give it to Biden). Nothing unexpected.

The incumbent mosquito man got to keep his post and the highly respected elections supervisor stays.

The only unexpected bad news is that the Republican lawyer on the school board who tends to keep the board from going too far right has been trounced by a 'right wing of the right wing' accountant. She's a Covid denier and is pushing for removal of the mask mandate in schools, which might well happen sooner rather than later. She also has issues with the quality of substitute teachers, ordinarily not a bad thing to have issue with but if you are going to quarantine your staff then it helps if someone is there to step in and it's not as though there's a glut of subs at the moment. Mind you, if you deny that Covid is a thing then I don't suppose there is any need to quarantine any staff. Confused

Edit: 79.77% turnout in the county, late ballots should see 80%, not bad at all!
Looks like Florida is going for Trump, Biden won Miami-Dade but his margin should have been much bigger, that is good news for those rooting for a Trump national win...

Biden is leading at the moment, I think. I'm not that sure how it all works.

You have to laugh at Trump's speech this morning. In one breath he said that if Biden loses, the Democrats will contest the result in court. In the next breath he says that the election is rigged and that the Republicans will contest it in court.

This is why I am glad we let the Yanks have their own country...

All this goes to show is ,you can't win an election just by slagging off the other side. You have to have a strong argument for voters.

Biden's plans for the US was tax everyone with money, re-route a portion of police funding into 'other places' and increase social security payments.

$30bn fund to tackle the "racism [that] exists in the US and must be dealt with through broad economic and social programmes to support minorities - and a pillar of his "build back" programme"

Increase payments to NATO, expand Obamacare ($2.25 tn), undo Trump's immigration plans at the Mexican border and to protect the 'dreamers' - people brought illegally to the US as children who were permitted to stay under an Obama-era policy - as well as ensure they are eligible for federal student aid.

Remind me again why Americans should vote for Biden? Thinking

Oh yeah, Trump's a racist.... Sleeping Sleeping Sleeping Sleeping

"It's going down to the wire!" "Could go either way!" "Trump falsely claims fraud!"

Nice to see the partisan nature of BBC News shining through Smile That being said their coverage is up to date and they have an excellent map, stats, etc. which is more than can be said for CNN.

No, the more accurate headline would be "Trump set to win in landslide!" but you'd have to go so Far Right you'd fall off the edge of the world before stumbling over such an article. All the Republican states have gone red, all the Democrat states have gone blue but the swing states have almost all gone Trump's way.

The only state to look at is Pennsylvania. It's heading red so far but both sides have been mouthing "election fraud" on this one for the past week.

Manchild Trump was always on standby to cry "cheated!" but as I understand it they've handed him the opportunity early. Some States changing their own rules late in the day, pausing the count and accepting late-arriving postal votes. Despite appearances the boy who cried wolf may have a fair point this time.

Meh, people like the system when it works for them. Republicans (and previously Democrats) for example seemingly have no issues with the fact that the popular vote doesn't automatically win the presidency.

Just because the ballot acceptance date has been extended due to covid-19 in some places, that doesn't automatically mean there is a secret plot to... what... create a handful of fake ballots in case they're needed? And why is Trump accusing the Democrats of a thing that his party could just as easily be attempting to do themselves? He's just getting scared and embarrassing himself.

Is it really about the rules in individual states in the US? What does federal law say about when vote counting should stop? I think that should be the overriding consideration.

Poignant comment I've just seen elsewhere:

"Trump is the only person who can simultaneously claim he's winning and say it's a fraudulent election 🤡"

If this election result is disputed, there's only one sensible way to sort it.
Biden and Trump in the Octagon! No holds barred! Last man standing wins!

The way Trump is currently conducting himself, I'm starting to genuinely fear he'll try to incite a violent civil response of some kind if he loses, i.e. protest, riot, etc (just as a lot of pundits have predicted). His actions are speaking very loudly at the moment. Quite clearly does not want to accept any situation other than his absolute victory.
