I know the thread title probably gives the subject more dignity than it warrants but who will be victorious, how and why?

Personally I think Trump will win, on the simple premise that the dumb bastards over the pond want a series 2, as it's so entertaining watching him bait the middle classes.

Trump can't be President. Or if he technically does (by doing something outlandish like winning the election fair and square) there'll be a massive legal battle and Pelosi will be President due to the time constraints on declaring a winner.

Even if he foiled all of that he'll just be assassinated. Too many people have too much invested to allow him another 4 years.

Don't really care. We think we have had bad choices.

Actually that isn't true. I want Trump to win if for nothing else but to see the meldown from the liberal left!

Queue 'Not my President' marches. Laughing

I'm never quite sure just why the long run up to the election takes up so much of our news for so long.

Because we're the one US state with no representation so we need to hope the other states do a good job of democracy.

Apparently if the legal wrangling goes past a certain point and an outright winner isn't declared the Speaker becomes President pro tempore. Trump has been lucky enough to stack the Supreme Court in his favour but that's no guarantee.

Any situation where Biden doesn't win outright on the night means Trump becomes President of the United States of Ashes.

If Trump wins the only ashes will be the protestors when he sends in the National Guard. He'll broadcast from the rooftops the people have given him a mandate to stop the rioters and he will.

You want to try being this side of the pond!

I did my bit, vote by mail that has already been counted, but the derp is strong in this county so I won't be expecting any sign of reigning in cronyism, covid, environmental destruction or rampant construction with no thought to infrastructure any time soon.
Edit: Referring to local issues.

Yes, easy to miss the fact there are people other than the President being elected. Senators, Congress... the sanitation manager? I'm sure there's someone else Smile

Is there a Republican method of mosquito control and a Democrat method? Laughing
Then there're the Greens, who probably don't believe in mosquito control at all.

Mosquito control is obviously a Republican thing... "DRAIN THE SWAMP!"

Actually, that might just work Wink

The challenger is the owner of a large pest control firm, I couldn't find any info on either of them but they do both have the outward appearance of stereotypical Republicans and there are plenty of red signboards out for both of them, Dems use blue backgrounds.

Despite the fact that this is a seriously right wing county, where Enoch Powell would get run out of town for being too socialist, some of our Republican representatives do a great bi-partisan job and draw support from both sides of the political spectrum. I don't know a thing about the chaps in mosquito control (because why would I?) but only a fool would vote against our supervisor of elections, who does a great job and should easily be returned for 4 more years on top of the 8 that he's already served.
Local politics is often more about the person and what they do for the locality rather than their party affliation.
Our local congressman, one of the richest in the US, may have done a few good things in his dozen years but he's a repugnant arsehole who's been done for witness tampering, funding irregularities, not revealing some of his business dealing as well as being tied to some distinctly iffy voting irregularities in the county south of here where 18,000 votes for congressman race mysteriously disappeared one year- the hospital board chairman race received more votes that year than the race for congressman! He'll still be likely returned this time round. Thumbs Down

If anyone is interested my county has had 63% of registered voters ballots counted to date, turnout is expected to be around 80%. Approximately 68% of the county population is registered to vote.
Registered Republicans make up 45.5% of those votes cast, Dems 32.6% and 'others' 21.9%. (Bear in mind that not everyone will vote entirely along party lines but many, if not most, will with most common exceptions for people like the aforementioned county elections supervisor).

Yeah, that's easy to forget. Sargon of Akkad did a bit recently about a progressive, "our dog is vegan" family moving from the UK to Woke-istan (Portland) Oregon...

tl;dr a rude awakening Wink

A rude awakening that they completely misinterpreted, and so they only add to the problem Rolling Eyes
Let them see how they like it when the Antifa candidate for Portland gets elected, which is akin to saying it's all gone wrong, so let's double down on what made it all go wrong.

Biden is ahead in the polls but you need to factor in the 'shy racists'.

It was on the news tonight that Pennsylvania has gone into shut down in anticipation of waves of looting.

I'm going to stick my neck out and say Trump will win another term. By winning, however, it does give him a mandate to take an even tougher stance on those whom he feels offers a "threat" to society.

With the liberal press doing what they can for Biden, I get the impression the old guy is not fairing as well as they had hoped ....

Interestingly, the non-farm payroll numbers (widely considered to be a best indicator of personal prosperity) have continued in positive territory since the 2nd quarter. He has, in many respects, done exactly what he said he would.

Trump seeming increasingly desperate on Twitter with his outbursts

he might just do it like last time but who knows

only problem with Biden is the crackpots he has in his party, he seems a decent guy but can he counter the radicals, who knows

It's hard to believe that a generally well educated and prosperous country like the USA can come up with such unappealing candidates on both sides.
How anyone can vote vote Biden when he's clearly suffering from Alzheimer's or Dementia I don't know, the Kamala woman is just waiting to pounce but even less would vote for her.

Surely there must be some politicians with intelligence and charisma who would have a general appeal even if you didn't like all their policies.
Obama was almost there but before that you have to go back to Kennedy I think.

Since Biden has no good words for the UK post Brexit we should hope Trump wins, which he will*

*probably Laughing

There's no actual scientific medical evidence to support the wild claims about Biden's mental state. Yes he's getting on but he's able to marshal his thoughts and present his case clearly. It's just smear tactics on the part of the Trump campaign which frankly, isn't surprising given their track record of "alternative facts" Laughing

I'm not sure who will come out on top but I sincerely hope the poll predictions are right and Biden wins by a healthy margin.

I will, however, predict that if he does win then Trump won't be gracious in defeat. I'm betting on a full toys out of the pram tantrum. The man has been a disgrace to high office and I can't see that changing on little bit. Laughing
