Hi, hoping that somebody here can offer advice to a worried novice please!

My new rider son has broken off the left gear side foot peg on his 125, it's going to take a week or so to get a replacement, and he's planning to keep riding whilst waiting. I'm not a biker but doesn't seem safe to me, makes changing gear harder for one thing, takes up some precious concentration perhaps, what are thoughts from any experienced riders reading??

Thanks.

I'd ride it home if I had to but I wouldn't recommend doing it on a daily basis! Especially for an inexperienced rider.

Why is it going to take that long to get a replacement? What Make and model is it?

Lexmoto LXR125, have to wait for a colour match!

He already rode it home after dropping it, about 15 miles, now intending to use it for similar distance each day.

I wouldn't ride one with NO footpeg, they are fuindamental to the control of the bike. Even if I put a long bolt through a hole temporarily to have some sort fo foot restraint.

Cops would take a dim view too. they would probably insist he travelled no further if they caught him riding it like that and either require him to have to recovered or (if he was unlucky) tow it.

Would one of the pillion pegs fit in for the time being? Even if you fit it to the bracket with a long bolt and nylok nut. It doesn't need to be tidy, just functional.

I've MOTed a motorbike with a spout-bolt for a footpeg before today.

Sounds like a bad idea. No way you can at least bodge something for him?

CMPO can usually do next day delivery for Lexmoto parts.

Yes, dad, I'd rather ride it in a dangerously unroadworthy condition than be seen with clashing colours! Truly the First in First World Problems Wink

I assume you're looking here:

https://www.chinesemotorcyclepartsonline.co.uk/search.php?search=pegs&manufacturer=Lexmoto&model=SY125-10&year=All%20Years

At £27 I'd either buy a left & right in silver or better yet buy the silver right peg and a can of black chassis paint Smile

Certainly not safe it it's missing altogether. Like many, I've ridden with them broken or jury-rigged even welded one to keep me commuting.

Won't a rear peg go in the front peg mount?

Definitely do not ride without any peg. As stinkwheel said, if he absolutely has to keep riding it then someone needs to fabricate some sort of functional peg for the meantime, but even with that fitted, tell him to take it easy because I doubt any temporary solution will fold should it make contact with the road (unlikely but you never know).

^^ All the above ^^

..also looked up the machine it looks a million dollars..
but 167KG and 9KW probably makes it the same power/weight as
a C90. Off topic I know but I was interested to see where the kids are at these days.

I also agree with the lads. I'd get it home like that if I had to, but I would not ride it around.

Also, a week or so, isn't that long nor worth risking a serious injury on such motocycle and even worse, he could also injure someone else.

I only asume he doesn't have the proper motorcycle boots and protective gear while riding, not many youngsters on 125's do, which makes this situation even worse.

Take the key/s, return it/them after the bike is properly fixed. At that point he might gonna think you're the worst person on Earth, but one day he will acknowledge you taking the key/s was the right thing to do.

By the way, 15 miles a day for a week or so? Public transport or a bicycle is what I would use.

Why are you asking such a stupid question with it's obvious answer.

You wouldn't drive round in a car with no floor.

The pegs themselves may be the same but the mounts are entirely different in size and bolt pattern.

Don't be mean he already said he's not a biker and doesn't really know about these things. Just because something is obvious to you (because it's your interest) doesn't necessarily mean it should be obvious to someone else.

He already said it didn't seem safe to him all he was looking for was some confirmation from people who actually know what they're talking about. Which he has had here quite conclusively now so he should know what to do.

Not very welcoming Sad
