That's why I'm thinking of leaving my tank unpainted, on my project bike.

I quite like it. I wouldn't have one, but it's far safer than having people with unsafe 'retro' lids from the actual 1970s.

Agreed, stops people having to use old helmets to look retro.

I don't like it myself but see how others might. Thumbs Up

[edit] is £240 expensive for a helmet these days then? Thinking

But you can buy the same style helmet without the fake battle scars.

I eschew it in the same ways as those jeans you can buy which come new with holes in them.. Rolling Eyes

But nothing, I like it. I'm allowed to like it, and with all the almost pearl clutching in this thread, I'm even more stubbornly going to like it.

Oh! They’re fake battle scars?? Embarassed didn’t look close enough did I Neutral

I’ve got four bash-hats already for some strange reason , I can only wear one at a time, I don’t think I need another, I’ll keep my money in my pocket.

I like it, for me it's an affectionate and well executed nod to the past, heritage, and the passing of time.

I'm wondering if you would have to pair it up with an appropriately retro/classic bike and jacket though to make it work? As it might look a bit odd in combination with one of these very 21st century 'cyborg' looking bikes?

Or maybe an intelligent mash up of different styles and eras - the classic lid with the ultra-modern bike might actually work if you do it right?

On the other hand you could end up looking like a total bellend - either way it's gonna be a close call. Very Happy

It's tricky to achieve but do-able. Accepted technique is to mix iron filings with laquer, apply and lightly sand. Then spray over with salty water if you're fed up waiting.

They do a black one. I'd love to get a black one with a silver mirrored visor and buy a black Porsche and drive around pretending to be Morovich from the terrible Disney live action movie Condorman.

FFS, no chance. Mechanical solutions are soooo 19th Century. Wotcha gonna power it on? Steam?! Laughing

Electrostatic Repulsion, that's the way. No moving parts, powered by solely by the ego of the wearer. I'd start a Kickstarter campaign but I haven't thought of good name yet Thinking
