So, um, here's what happened: I had just exited my gravel driveway onto the hard surface farm road. I'll admit, I was not in the best mood. I made the 90 degree curve onto which my driveway exits, gunned it on the straight, went to shift into second and hit neutral instead. Before I could roll off and squeeze the clutch lever to get to second, the transmission snapped back down into first. I won't swear to it, but it seemed like my hands got a little higher and I somehow twacked my left thumb a little (My right is pretty used to it; seems it gets twacked every crash Smile ). I wouldn't say that it felt scary, but it definitely wasn't normal and it got my attention. Could my front wheel have caught air for a brief moment during that unexpected downshift--and can I claim to have done my first wheelie?

It's not a real wheelie unless some impressionable small children see it.

Brool Cory Sto.

If you want to claim it as a wheelie I'd work on your delivery otherwise no-one will be impressed.

Sounds more like a tankslapper if you hurt your thumb.

I've had two tank slappers on My R6, they gave me the fear. Didn't like them at all, paranoia every time I accelerate hard.

I would like to try a wheelie but am too feared.

It's not a tankslapper unless you are thrown 15' into the air.

seconded, if you managed to stay on it wasnt a tankslapper it was a head shake, even if you break your thumbs. Its only a tankslapper if you get yeeted off and hit the ground so hard you forget what day it is.

Forgive the facetiousness of the other replies, beating around the bush and refusing the answer the bloody question Rolling Eyes Brick Wall

If the handle bars got light then yes in all probability you got some air. I remember watching some TV program donkeys ago about the world's fastest wheelie in the Guinness World Records there were two dudes taking it in turns competing on some air strip. One guy's bike broke down and the other let him use his until the other guy started getting dangerously close to beating the guy whose bike was still working's record so he called it a day there. Anyways I digress I remember them mentioning that there was no requirement for height or length of time on the wheelie so long as the front wheel left the ground (lame!). So yes, impress your peers and make claim to your first ever wheelie. The lads will be an awe of your feat and the girls will get so wet their knickers will start dropping left, right and centre.

I'm off to pull some wheelies followed by a shameful disappointing wank Embarassed

I had a loan bike after being reversed over by a white van and although it was less powerful to the bike I was used to it was distinctly more torquey and had a power rush at a certain rpm. I was relatively inexperienced (still am!) and I remember coming along a long straight piece of road with a small hump back bridge. Was gunning it flat out full throttle due to the lack of power and just as I hit the brow of the hump back bridge the power kicked in and I done the highest wheelie I ever had (or ever have since) and it was definitely brown trouser time. Probably overreacting and had miles to go before I hit the balance point but was the most extreme I had done and it shit me up pretty bad. Had to pull over and have a sit down Embarassed

It's not a real wheelie unless you're a p1key and you do it straight into some 17 year old father of two.

I had similar with my crossrunner trying to get a little jump over a small bridge, as I normally do on that road. Front lifted way up as the VTEC kicked in and I left the ground and landed in a wheelie, felt fucking awesome at the time and gave a big adrenaline hit! Totally unintentional but worked out pretty smooth.
