I concluded long ago that Honda occasionally make decent bikes by accident, then spend the next 20 years rectifying that by slowly designing them into the ground by making them steadily worse and more bland with each iteration. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. Yes, I think it will go down a treat. They'll sell lots of these.
According to this official video, it's had major R&D on its counterbalancer shaft and exhaust, and produces a fairly even torque for a single:

Although I suspect most of the work has gone into meeting emissions and noise limits.
I don't think the big selling point will be superior technology. Probably, only Honda thinks that smoothness is what the customer wants. The big news came at the end of that video. It will come equipped with smartphone integration, and allow realtime streaming of video footage taken from the helmet, all by means of extra controls on the left-side switchgear. As such, it's a ready-to-roll package to make any buyer a Youtube star, just like their motovlogger heroes. |

Funny thing is I tend to agree. The 500 Rebel is a fairly unique proposition in that there aren't many A2 cruisers so a lot of the design choices might be forgiven.
1100? Hmm, now you're in the range of the Yamaha XV950R (Bolt) Speedmaster and Harleys. Compared to any of those it fails on looks utterly They should have gone a bit "T120 into Speedmaster" starting with the CB1100RS or EX instead of upscaling the CMX500.
It's about the same price as the Yamaha but with a better* engine. Oh! and apparently you can get better lean angles out of it; always atop the list of potential cruiser owners concerns Nobody in this marketing bracket forgoes looks for spec sheet Top Trumps, ffs.
I still rate the 500 as a cheeky little urban hooligan but I'd take the designers and marketing guys on the 1100 team out behind the chemical sheds
*better performing engine, impractical as an air-cooled V-twin is at least it looks nice. ____________________ Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, Yamaha XSR700, Honda Rebel, Yamaha DT175, Suzuki SV650 (loan) Fazer 600, Keeway Superlight 125, 50cc turd scooter |

That silencer was modelled on a sliced loaf wasn't it? I know most people will remove it immediately anyway but
there was no need for that! The audio of what it sounds like was bloody awful too. ____________________ Currently enjoying products from Ford, Mazda and Yamaha
