Hello, looking for some insight into an issue with datatool red. A week ago or so alarm started going off over and over until ignition is turned on, to stop it we have to disconnect the battery of motorcycle which makes it unusable if you have to park outside of my home.

Any idea what could be the cause of this?

Could it be the backup battery is dead and needs you to ride the bike to charge it back up?

That is very interesting. Indeed the bike was sitting in the garage for a very long time (full lockdowns and then winter). We do charge the moto battery every week or two though to keep it from dying - i assumed the datatool backup battery would just pick up any energy it needs to recharge from the main battery.

If that is the case - very odd feature from datatool side as for what its worth as long as main battery has charge there logically shouldnt be any issue, maybe apart from warning signal, by having backup drained..

I had a spyball alarm on my Buell whose backup battery completely died. The bike was only idle for about 6 months. The bike was immobilised and could not be started. There was no way to replace or regenerate the backup battery. I had to buy a bypass kit from ebay in order to get the bike working again. I think the fact that your bike works at all is either a sign that datatool did a better design in the first place, or that the backup battery is not quite completely dead and you should probably take the bike out for a ride.

I probably will one of these days to give it a try. I also just realized that when i disconnect the main bike battery nothing happens (alarm should go off) without entering service or winter mode

In my experience the internal battery lasts about 12 years and then the alarm is junk. I couldn’t find a replacement battery for my Datatool S3 so I bypassed it using info readily available on the web. It took some time but wasn’t difficult. When a Meta alarm died with a puff of smoke I simply plugged a replacement head unit in since I knew the loom was still fine, so that might be another option.

Mine is less than 2 years old. And the more i look into it (testing) the more weird it is. I came to a conclusion that alarm for some reason thinks that someone is turning ignition on when armed as the sounds match, no diagnostic tho

If it's anything like Meta alarms, the internal lithium battery will crap out on it meaning it needs replacement.

Nice one Thumbs Up

These guys are pretty clued upon these alarms if you need a replacement for it: https://abacuscaralarms.co.uk/

(edit: no affiliation, just dealt with them before for my alarm replacement).
