Hello, wondering if someone could help me, hit some ice in the works car park this morning and dropped the bike. ( lightly dropped no visual damage), and now it wont start at all. When i try to start it its making a very unheathy buzzing sound. Im new to riding so not very clued up but is this something i can take a look at myself or will it need to go to a garage. ive included a video of it. Thank you for any help.

Baz

Strange one that, with no visible damage i would be checking the battery / starter motor connections.

Is that the starter relay buzzing? They do that when the battery is flat. Are the battery terminals tight?

Sounds like the starter is jammed. They're about £25 (I have an RKS, have replaced starter). Try tapping on it with a copper/hide/nylon hammer first, see if it frees up.

That has all the classic signs of loose battery terminals
so I'd start looking there not forgetting the grounding as well.

There's a chance that the engine is flooded and locked up. Take the spark plug out and press the starter switch. If it's flooded you will see fuel spraying out the cylinder.

If it still turns over slowly with the spark plug out I'd check that connections at the battery, starter motor, starter relay, ground connection to the frame and ground to the engine are all tight.

If you can't get the starter working you could push start it to get it going. Turn the key on, put it in 2nd gear, pull the clutch in, run with it as fast as you can, release the clutch, the engine should fire, pull the clutch in straight away so the bike doesn't ride off without you.

It does sound like its starter has jammed or it has hydrauliced. Try pushing it backwards in gear to free off the starter motor . Or as others have said a bump , or plug out and see if it spins.

Some form of hydraulic lock. Plug out and turn engine a few times. Plug in and fire up (Hopefully)

Hi just an update, took the battery out put it on a charger and the charger said it was at 20%, now fully charged and back in and it starts up perfectly. So between that and me tightening the connections back up it seems to have fixed the issue, wanted to say thanks again for the advice given hope you all had a good new year.

Thanks

Baz

I was in there first before Noddy replied Smile
Would it be possible for this battery to short out 2 cells when dropped?

I haven't commented on this one. I leave the easy problems for you.

How about you weigh in on the FZ problem. What do you think is the problem?

I have passed on this FZ problem one but i have seen wiring diagrams with relay switches being used for more than one circuit.
