Hi

I have bought and sold a few vehicles but this is a bit new for me.

The bike (shhh, it's a scooter) has a SORN and has just passed its MOT. The bike is at the mechanic's garage and isn't insured by the owner. This will be a private sale.

I know that I can arrange insurance ahead of time to "activate" on Friday. Also the bike has a current MOT. However, how do I pay road tax if I can only sign the V5C on Friday then wait for the document to arrive at DVLA through the post and be processed?

This can't be an unusual situation for a private sale. When I bought cars or bikes the past they had annual road tax - so there wasn't an issue. As I understand it, I can't pay road tax on the bike (scooter) until it is registered to and insured by me. I'm sure this is simple - I just can't work it out.

Thanks,

Clive

I have found the following - which seems to do the job for transferring the vehicle "immediately" !

All you need is the number of the V5C.... you should then be able to buy road tax via your phone before you ride away; alternatively if you can get your seller to let you have the V5C number in advance (though he may well not want to) you could organise the road tax at home beforehand, at your leisure.
