that's decent man, did your dealer charge for labour or is it included in the warranty

hope its all running well for you my friend

Zontes cover parts and labour. Didn’t cost me a nugget other than the hassle of taking it to the dealer twice.

If you’ve bought this bike new yourself you should get it fixed under its warranty.

Well, it went through it's first service last Friday, I haven't used it much this weekend but I swear it feels slightly better but I am going to put any improvement down to the chain and sprockets being replaced.

Break-down in spend for first service (plus additional costs):

Service Cost (Labour): £49.00,
Service Cost (Oil): £9.95,
Service Cost (Filters): £15.00,
Service Cost (VAT): £14.79.
FIRST SERVICE TOTAL COST: £88.74

Additional Cost (Chain): £102.50,
Additional Cost (Sprockets): £56.39,
Additional Cost (Labour): £117.60.
TOTAL ADDITIONAL COST: £276.49

Running Costs (fuel): £26.11.

It has 581 miles on the clock and to-date my costs have been (ignoring amortisation of the bike purchase price and insurance to date) the princely sum of £391.34.

It's worth noting that it came from the dealer with a full tank when I got it, and I have only topped it up twice since getting it (and never from an empty tank). That's why my fuelling costs seem low.

Buttered and bummed, IMO.

£158.89 for a chain and sprocket kit and then an additional £117.60 for fitting alone. Jesus wept. I've just paid £170-ish for a D.I.D kit on the FZS 600 MK1 (supplied and fitted) and my wallet cried.

I'd love to know what brand they've put on a little 125 where a chain costs that much. Unless the OP has had more things done under the "additional labour" than a sprocket change that was agreed when the bike was dropped of but is listed in the invoice that's criminal.

The parts were my own personal choice:

Chain was a DID 520 ZVMXGG 112 that I bought from chains and sprockets.com myself for £102.50.

Sprockets were JT sprockets.

I supplied the chain and sprockets for them to install. My rationale was that a chain that was made for a litre bike probably isn’t going to wear all that fast on a 125cc.

No idea what oil they used tbh.

Am I missing the backstory here? Why does it need new c&s after 581 miles?

If it's only got 500 miles on the clock then why are you changing the sprocket and chain? Seems a bit nuts to be throwing money at a new 125 for upgrades like fancy brake discs and D.I.D chains that wont really change anything. Especially when labour alone is £120 for something you could fit yourself in half an hour.

Put some real miles on the bike and then decide what needs upgrading.

Not really, I just thought it would be a good idea and done it anyway. I was going to change gearing with different sprockets but just went for standard sizes of a better quality than OEM. There was nothing wrong with the OEM chain or sprockets I just wanted them changed anyway to (potentially, idk) save some maintenance down the line

Fortnine's just done a bit on "first oil" and apparently Chinese oil has so much shit in it the AI working the analysis microscope got so fucked off it left site, went to the pub, found it was closed due to Covid, came back and is now rocking in the corner of the lab...

So I'm glad you got the oil done Very Happy

Haha mate I literally just watched that video too lmao guess I have my bike ingesting itself from the inside out to look forward too!

Was surprised at how Ducati and Aprillia did on it though. Even a Harley runs cleaner than a Ducati. Wow.

Next time you want a chain (hopefully not in the next 500 miles) then this is where to go:

That is insane. It's not even an hours work (possibly half an hour) It's not like they will have had to fight the front sprocket nut either as they will have had a rattlegun.

Just some pics from after I did my 270 mile ride down the South-West coast of Scotland recently. The handguards are from the Zontes ZT125-U1 variant but I wanted them: so added them. The shite generic universal screen is one I got off Amazon for £30 and I am considering taking it off again since it looks shite.

Yeah that screen ain't doing it any favours. A mix between a bug and a transformer Laughing That said, underneath it all - it's really not a bad looking lil bike that is it Cool

I have a serious question though - how the hell have you managed to keep the new tyre markings on when you've been 270 miles around the twisties in Scotland?! Get them gone. Pronto!

Oh and I have another question. Have you taken your L Plates off for the photo or have they just accidentally fallen off somewhere along the journey, or by chance are they there and under a cloaking device?

UPDATE:

Well, this morning on my way to work, this guy in the white van didn't look right while driving out and turning right onto the main road (A724 - Cambuslang Road, Glasgow). As I was driving past this meant he drove out and clipped me as I was travelling north-west on the A724 towards the junction between the A724 and A749 (known as the "Farme Cross").

I was interested to know what the Highway Code said about it and found:

The Highway Code wrote:

Rule 170

Take extra care at junctions. You should:

1. Watch out for cyclists, motorcyclists, powered wheelchairs/ mobility scooters and pedestrians as they are not always easy to see. Be aware that they may not have seen or heard you if you are approaching from behind,

2. Watch out for pedestrians crossing a road into which you are turning. If they have started to cross they have priority, so give way,

3. Watch out for long vehicles which may be turning at a junction ahead; they may have to use the whole width of the road to make the turn (see Rule 221),

4. Watch out for horse riders who may take a different line on the road form that which you would expect,

5. Not assume, when waiting at a junction, that a vehicle coming from the right and signalling left will actually turn. Wait and make sure,

6. Look all around before emerging. Do not cross or join a road until there is a gap large enough for you to do so.

Rule 174

Box junctions. These have criss-cross yellow lines painted on the road (download “Road Markings”). You MUST NOT enter the box until your exit road or lane is clear. However, you may enter the box and wait when you want to turn right, and are only stopped from doing so by oncoming traffic, or by other vehicles waiting to turn right. At signalled roundabouts you MUST NOT enter the box unless you can cross over it completely without stopping.
Law TSRGD Regs 10 (1) & 29(2).

Where were you in lane orientation? Filtering down the outside?

Correct, I was also traveling slowly due to the need to stop at the traffic lights that are about 40 metres ahead of the junction.

Very similar situation to that in Jones v Lawton:

It's on him IMO, from a legal perspective.

But being right isn't as good as not being deaded. Make sure you assess how you've gone at the situation and what you'll take from it.

Is it a work's van or private owned? If it's works van, the fleet drivers usually bear the excess themselves and will more readily offer up a payment to keep it off the books.

Yeah I was confident that I wasn't at fault, you're right though it's better to be safer and more cautious in future.

The van is an Enterprise driver (the rental company) and told me he just collected it from a customer to return to depot with it. At the time he didn't leave me with any insurance information as he didn't know it but gave me the Enterprise office number and who to speak to. I phoned and the woman told me she had to speak with their "Risk Officer" to determine what to do next about it. I assume that the cost of the peg, number plate and indicator stalk (maybe, because I am not bothered with it being bent a couple degrees to be honest).

I've e-mailed Portman for a price to supply and fit the new pillion foot peg.

Dude, don't make the claim easy on Enterprise to be nice. These are the fuckers that will bill you for a paintwork scuff that requires an electron microscope to find.

Bike - Professionally assessed and repaired.

Injuries - Claim.

Were liability reversed they'd be doing their best to get an entire new Van out of you along with the quadra-spazzing of their driver.

Just to give you my similar example: car went into the back of me when stationary, number plate holder bent. Insurance assessment: replacement number plate, holder and rear mudguard + labour Shocked So yeah, stack it up as much as you can.

Watch out for large corporates. Over a certain size they might be "self-insured" so to speak and not via a traditional underwriter.
