Sidecar Tyre reccomendations and sizing

Hi Folks.

The time has come to replace the tyres on the bike/sidecar.

Current tyre sizes are
Front 90-90-19
Rear 110-80-18
Side 3.50-16-66

I've heard a lot of talk about using tyres with a square profile, Avon triple-duty get mentioned a lot, but they are only available in 19"

Also I'm not sure what the 3.50-16-66 converts to as a more usual tyre size format like the front and rear.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Oh dear. As for tyres on the motorbike, I have never found any usful difference at all between "triple duty" and SM MKII front and rear. They all wear out very quickly, especially if you get a bit excited when riding.

For the sidecar? What sort of wheel is it (got a snap)?

EDIT: It's the back wheel of the motorbike that will wear most, there's not normally such a load on the sidecar wheel.

Sidecar! What`s a sidecar?
From memory a bike has to lean into the sidecar because of them left hand bends in the uk.
Today`s curved tyres have less tread on the sides so it looks like flat tyres all round. Neutral
Also why not remove them and turn them around to use the other side of the flat tyres unless they have a one direction only tyres.

I think your memory might be fading a bit. Normally bike/ sidecar setups have the bike leaning a little to the right to counteract the drag from the sidecar wheel , which tends to pull the outfit to the left.
The side car wheel is usually a couple of inches forwards of the bike's rear wheel and the side car is set to toe in a bit.

I think you might be wrong. Normally bike/ sidecar setups have the bike leaning a little to the right to counteract the drag from the sidecar wheel , which tends to pull the outfit to the left.

You may be right?

Metzeler makes a square rear tyre for sidecaring only in 4-18 , the "Block K"

I have read that Heidenau make 16" in sidecar profile as well but do not know the name of that one.
3.50-16 is the size of the sidecar tyre, 66 might be the load index or type

Edit: Google says Heidenau K29 is the old sidecar classic3.5-16, but also mentions a newer K28 available in 4-18 and 4-19

110/80-18 means 110mm wide, 80% as tall as it is wide and 18" rim. The dash indicated bias belt construction.

3.50-16 means 3.5 inches wide. Imperial motorcycle tyres have a 90% profile and 16" rim.

What about an old fashioned ensign universal? From memory, 90/90-18 is in the 3.00-18 ballpark.

110/80-19 is slightly lower profile than a 3.50-19 but correct ballpark.

Car spacesaver tyres are rated to 55mph and are cheap as chips.

Bet you could shoehorn a 115/85 spacesaver tyre on the rear.
