Got a 10k in the morning, 9am, forecast to be 21degrees at 9am

My first running event since winter 2019, or any event, since Mar 2020.

Slowly, very slowly, losing my lockdown weight.

So Half Marathon in a months time, then a 6hr event at the athletics track i Feb.
Considering both, run every day for a year and also a 24hr endurance marathon in 2022.

I know I could cycle for 24 hrs, not sure about running, we shall see.

Given up worrying about my size and shape, I don't seem able to get into the same physical condition I was in 7 years ago, but I can run 8minute miles when I choose to. Doubt i will ever do a sub 21 minute Park Run again, I jog round at 26 minutes now, but it is nice to be out and about once more

Have started doing lane swimming again before work.
As the local council pool is currently only doing "family swim" sessions I had to join a gym to use its much smaller pool.

Currently doing just under 1km 3 times a week.

Used to do about 1.5km 3 times a week at the council pool but I am carrying a fair bit more lard around this year Smile

The best local gyms with pools all closed, got bought by bigger companies and sold off for housing. Of the remaining ones, one got bought out and the pool removed. Leaves just one, and the pool is too busy to use.

Council owned pools have a timetable that one needs a degree in logisitics to understand.

When I was a kid, could turn up at the local pool any time between opening and 1/2 hr before closing, pay go in and swim.

Not now.

I'm seriously considering joinng the local triatholn club, and using thei open water swimming area at the aqua park on the edge of town.

I'm still quite lardy and slow, but I'm now running about 50km a week.

Did 17mile trail run on Saturday.

After wobbling earlier in the year I've been back on it since mid June, still walking the dog every day for 3-4-5 miles at a brisk pace (my phone thinks I'm running for half the distance) with the occasional row thrown in.

I've cut out bread (120 calories per slice !) and all the other junk again during the week, but relax a bit more at the weekends and have the odd bacon sandwich ! I also have changed what I put on my plate, so for example only 1 or 2 roast spuds with the Sunday roast but lots more veggies.

I have made a spread sheet that records my weight and BMI as a graph with an end target and I find that it helps on the weeks that I don't lose much / anything as I can see that the overall trend is downwards and I can see how far I have come and don't get disheartened.

I also have a 'diet buddy' who is aiming for a similar weight loss over a similar period and we weigh ourselves each Friday morning and support each other through the tough times when things aren't going well diet wise...

A consequence of doing this (and this thread), I've managed to lose almost 5 kgs since the middle of June.

ran a half marathon yesterday, averaged the whole thing at 9.20 minute miles, but I ran the first 8 and walked/ran/walked the rest as it was too hot and my hips hurt from pushing running and cycling recently.

Also, 30 minutes after crossing the finish line I kept throwing up. Sick
dehydrhation probably, wasn't that hot, about 23, but it's been cool lately, and all my running as been in the mid teens, so it did seem warm.

After many many months of stagnation, apathy, injures and general laziness, I’ve finally got my backside into gear.

I’m now going to Judo once a week.
Only light training by agreement, just to get the heart pumping and a little bit of a sweat on.

Once I’m comfortable with this, i might think of increasing my workload.

Well, lockdown flab slowly going away.

Did a 5k park run in 24mins at Brighton, blowing a gale, with sidewways rain, t's a flat course though. Trail cycling once a week, running 3 times a week. Just got to lose the lard, so Crying or Very sad bye bye sugar and snacks

According to my smart watch my average heart rate is 53bpm, unless I run, in which case a 24hr average is 58bpm, and when I sleep it's 49bpm

Vo2 max is 42, want to get it back up over 45. but not bad for a 50 year old I guess.

If it wasn't for the good feeling I get after exercise, I wouldn't feel good at all Laughing

I've not experienced that for a while.
I prefer to receive my endorphins in a more relaxed way.
I really should go back to swimming.

I don't think endorphins are the only factor in feeling physically good after exercise. Not to mention I feel mentally sharper. Although some may say it doesn't show Laughing

Looking forward to next week now.
I might even think about having a second evening’s training every now and then Shocked .

OR , I could just have another pie?

New shoes day. Adios 6 for faster runs and the old model solar boost19's for everything else. The newer SB3's look like they have gone to plasticy blown rubber like most other shoes. I have 800km on my old SB19's, heavy but good.

I hate this getting older sh*t!
I’ve lost a lot more muscle tone and strength than I realised over the last couple of years. (Absence, injures, covid restrictions, etc)
Did a couple of sparing bouts last night whilst training.
Both my opponents wiped the floor with me.

It’s made me realise that I really am getting older and losing strength, agility, stamina, & speed. Sad

The good thing was that at least I got the heart pumping and a sweat on.

I turned 50 last autumn. I joined a judo club last week. Embarassed

They were all very nice, and assured me that I was not too old. Embarassed

Right Thumbs Up you’re never to old.
It’s just a case at what level you train/participate at.

Me = covid really fked my lungs up and now I train at weedy pussy level.

I’m never going to be a super ninja, so I don’t try to be one.

It gives me a little bit of flexibility and gets my ticker pumping.

I've noticed that with a lot of guys. They find it hard to "let go" of the macho-bollocks thing that is drilled-in practically from birth, and just cannot accept they can't do some stuff any more, and it really fucks them up.

But concentrating on flexibility and just keeping moving, seems to be the best thing you can do as you get older. I can still spring about when it suits me. Just not as much as I might have done when I were younger ... well, I might have done when I were younger - if I hadn't been so fat and lazy Laughing

I'm not planning to take up marathons, I might end up doing a bit of yoga or Tai Chi eventually, but for now dancing madly keeps me fitter than I used to be.

Wink

Better than a lot of people give them credit for.
